Well, ignorance and stupidity is their milieu. Go ahead and own it I guess.

Deconstructionism at its finest. When there is no truth, everything can be true.

Pedagogy has become their new favorite buzzword

I learned a new term, falling up. In this nation we seem determined to pull the “less fortunate and underprivileged” to the top of the tower even if it means tearing the tower down so they won’t have to make an effort to climb the stairs on their own.

Awesome. So a question. Is it systemic racism if you intentionally via the education system ensure that blacks are less than employable because they speak and write poorly.
Remember when it was considered bad that the system gave blacks a lesser education? Now they want to codify it?

This approach challenges the familiar dogma that writing instruction should limit emphasis on grammar/sentence-level issues so as to not put students from multilingual, non-standard ‘academic’ English backgrounds at a disadvantage
So they want to change the rules of english to whatever anyone wants goes?
I'm thinking that is going to fractionate the english language.

Instead, it encourages students to develop a critical awareness of the variety of choices available to them w/ regard to micro-level issues in order to empower them and equip them to push against biases based on ‘written’ accents
What are written accents?
Oh, you must mean following the rules of the english language.

A recommendation endorsed by leaders of all instructional units is to require all fall 2020 instructors in English to attend at least one workshop remotely on “how to have an anti-racist classroom
These things are a total waste of time.

decolonizing the Writing Center
I didn't know the writing center was colonized. I bet you nobody knew the writing center was colonized until these idiots decided it. And who is it colonized by?
quote:
When asked whether the effort to “decolonize the writing center” and incorporate “critical grammar” is a wise pedagogical decision for Rutgers’ student body and university as a whole, Executive Dean Peter March and Rutgers media spokesperson Dory Devlin did not respond to a request from The College Fix for comment on the matter.
Because they had no idea what that even meant. I don't even know what critical grammar is. Must be like a double negative makes a positive and understanding how to conjugate verbs. I think these are pretty critical aspects.
But hey, I'm a simple guy...

Building on this commitment to African American Literature as a standalone requirement for the major
excellent.
This is another wasted major for which there is no job available except to teach it.

We will design the reading for Rutgers Day 2021 to specifically address issues of anti-black racism and social justice. This is our annual reading-under-the-tent, which attracts students, faculty, administrators, and community members to the Rutgers campus.
Writers at Rutgers will organize several readings in 2020-2021 addressing issues related to the #BLM movement and systemic racism. Professors Mark Doty and Evie Shockley are going to read (together); we also have the novelist Viet Nguyen scheduled.
Typical college stuff of no significance.
What is this? A fluff piece about doing what colleges always do? Cry about things?
It doesn't say they are going to do anything. Is this just the liberal rantings of crazy people in the department that they hired and now can't get rid of?
Colleges have screwed themselves every way possible.

This was their argument for trying to teach ebonics 20+ years ago.

So glad I'm sending my daughter to a conservative (relatively) university in OU.

A graduate level course not requiring correct grammar? Wouldn't that be similar to a Calculus course not requiring basic algebra?

Well I'm sure this guy has all the answers to how Whites have oppressed Blacks.

Shorty, this is my big problem with colleges now. The student is there to become employable. If you don't promote the skills and expertise to be a desired employee then you're doing a disservice to the student.

So they put out a grammatically correct notice?
That seems racist!

That would have increased my grades tremendously
Posted on 7/26/20 at 10:36 am to TrueTiger
Why don't they call it jive anymore? That's way better than ebonics
Posted on 7/26/20 at 10:43 am to Zach
Nothing screams "ignorant" like bad use of English.
We just continue to dumb down to their level.

That's great. It's really going to help those black job seekers get that coveted interview.

Funny that I was born and raised by two deaf parents born in the 30’s, but was never given a “pass” for my failures with written and spoken language. I just had to work a little harder for awhile to catch up with my peers and not waddle in victimization. No matter what we do, life will always be inherently unfair - we can’t change that; but, to give up and accept failure because of it, is a loser mentality approach.
