I could think about buying into that argument had it happened 20 years ago. It's been 150 years.

You should have a bucket of history and perspective dumped on your head.
They were often captured by fellow Africans for their own gains.
They were sold to Americans by many different nations. They were freed by guns and blood. Hundreds of people and organizations came into the south to help and educate. Many chose to leave and start new in the west and the north. Many chose to stay and find some land of their own to work.
Bucket dump analogy is for simpletons.

Except the people that were so expendable that they did the jobs deemed to strenuous or dangerous for even slaves.
GTFO with this shite.
The Great Society has destroyed the black community like no other factor.

Well, there were some people that wanted to educate the slaves, but unfortunately, they lost the war. So, masses of uneducated workers that relied solely on their masters for subsistence were unleashed on the South. Which is exactly what the North wanted in order to weaken the South. You can thank Lincoln and his authoritarian regime for that. Throw in Reconstruction and the newly freed blacks had very little chance to improve in life.
That problem does not exist in modern America, though. Everyone has the opportunity to succeed if they just work hard enough.

Generally, what we call this is the soft bigotry of low expectations. The claim is, "How could the African American ever get ahead?" I'd like to think that most people don't think so little of the industry and rich culture of African American people.

Are you saying black people are more stupid than white people and are incapable of learning?
Posted on 1/8/18 at 3:51 pm to RFK
Wow. I mean WOW.
You hate yourself so much that don't have a fricking clue.
ETA: some of you baws need to relearn American History. The Abe Lincoln and Civil War stuff is WRONG.

It is basically the most insulting position in race in America. It argues that African American agency is useless because they were/are too stupid to use it. It is a disgusting point of view that masquerades as compassion or concern.

Didn't the British dump some prisoners on a island somewhere. Lol Sorry couldn't resist.

Every race has been enslaved by another (sometimes their own race) at some point in history. This does not make African Americans’ experience special - just the more recent and therefore easiest to recall.
African Americans would do well to drop the collective guilt trip many of them are selling and just get on with getting a good education, getting married, and having kids. In that fricking order. Many good things will follow thereafter.

I’ve never argued for reparations, and think practically this would be very difficult to implement, but this is worthy of consideration when you really take a look at the injustice of ‘dumping them out of a bucket’ into society with no way to feasibly get ahead.
I honor my ancestors by voting, working, education, and by appreciating the opportunities that exist in 21st century America. I would dishonor them by forcing white people to give me a check.
Reparations would obliterate racial relations in this country. I would burn a reparations check and dance on its ashes.

Statements like that are the literal definition of ‘white privilege’.

Since the civil rights act in the 60s how many trillions of dollars have been given for reparations. How many centuries does it take to learn to assimilate? Black children, just like white, and Asian, who want to join society and build a life have the same opportunity.
I've got Caucasian nieces and nephews who would rather live off food stamps in Louisiana than seek employment elsewhere.
Its not a color issue its a want issue.

The African American community is10 generations removed from slavery. There is no excuse for today. Absolutely none.
You say that you feel compassion and want them to succeed? You must not have children. If I want my children to succeed I don’t give them things or make it easier for them to succeed. I make sure that they know it requires hard work and dedication. These are individuals that I love more than life itself, and I don’t give them preferential treatment because I know it will cause them more harm than good.
Same principle here. I would love to see everyone succeed, but giving in to their whines of unfairness is not the way to do it.
