The truth is when guys like Bernie Sanders talk about the system being rigged, it resonates with many because it is rigged. Our economic system is state run capitalism. The state picks winners.

The post office runs an extra day for Amazon. Section 230 for social media companies. The taxpayers fund professional sports leagues stadiums. Post financial crisis, a Lehman Brothers employee gets kicked to the curve while the taxpayers fund bonuses for AIG employees.

Hell this year the government has handpicked what businesses can even operate based on loose science at best. So quit saying “muh free market” and shitting yourself every time someone talks about income inequality. Quit saying “private company, it can do what it wants” because any large company in our country isn’t truly private anymore.

This isn’t capitalism, and the insistence on defending it or not calling it out will only drive more people to socialism.

The solution to this is not to add more socialism.

This is absolutely true. It all starts with political lobbyists and those companies that give backdoor deals that benefit their companies. I’m sure you will find that a large percentage of former elected officials in Washington become lobbyists. It’s definitely no coincidence.

Facism - merger of state and corporate since financial crisis. Corporate gets capitalism for profits and socialism bailouts for losses which results in trillions and trillions to the Big Guys and Corrupt politicians. All will be on the back of the middle to lower upper classes and small businesses until they are ALL extinct.

No one here said it was. I wouldn’t call breaking up monopolies socialism though. At the very least, they shouldn’t be given massive advantages.

The education system is an example of state run system that Republicans constantly defend instead of trying to change.

Instead of saying to young people, “You should have been a plumber.” One should say, “If the system was competitive instead of state dictated, there would be legitimate low cost paths to white collar jobs.”

I’ve long said Sweden represents a better ideal of capitalism than the US.

True. But also, the winners pick the state.

I fear covid has pushed our economy closer to being an oligarchy.

Time for an analogy.

Zach plays golf.
Dustin Johnson plays golf.
But there is a big difference.

GOP run govt rigs the economy.
Dem run govt rigs the economy.
But there is a big difference.
