So, a bureaucrat with almost limitless discretion and zero accountability twisted the interpretation of a subjective regulation to suit their own ideological proclivities?

You'd have a point if she was complaining about CPS and their investigation. Her complaint was in her unfounded assumptions that the anonymous tip was called in by someone that didn't like her political tweets. Kind of irresponsible of her to make that assumption with no proof, but whatever. She's also a huge Ole Miss fan, so it could have also been a disgruntled Mississippi State fan. Who knows.

Sucks, doesn't it?

THIS is why conservatives hate excessive and amorphous regulation.

So you're not a fan of CPS and have no desire to stop human trafficking?

I know you think you're being clever but this is a very specific case

Well, while we are virtue signaling, I will say that I have put more money and time against human trafficking than probably 99% of this board, and done it in a place where the horrors are beyond what most people even know exist. Try explaining to someone why selling their 4 year old into sex is evil when they have no moral compass to begin with because all that was wiped out by the Khmer Rouge.

All that aside, CPS (regardless of their motives) are probably one of the most manipulated services out there. Notice I did not say evil or ignorant, because I think the people who dedicate their careers to this are exceedingly well-intentioned. How many times have we read stories of child custody cases using these offices as pawns by manipulating them?

My bigger point, though, is the philosophical one, where will get no conclusive answer on a discussion board. Regulation and bureaucracies, even when well-intentioned, are rife with manipulation and unintended consequences, and they should be enacted and enforced with as much awareness of this as possible, rather than just carpet bombed in and enforced to the letter. They never go away (until you get a Trump that insists on a specific effort to do it), yet we just let them proliferate with minimal accountability.

Again, this is why conservatives are categorically more wary of regulation. Many are absolutely necessary and proper. Many are not, and they are enacted with very little accountability.
