WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Gunmaker Colt says it is suspending its production of rifles for the civilian market including the popular AR-15.
Colt’s chief executive officer, Dennis Veilleux, says it is not permanently ending production but believes there is already an adequate supply of sporting rifles on the market. He said in a statement Thursday the company will concentrate on fulfilling military and law enforcement contracts with its rifle manufacturing.

Good. Many better options in the market.

Cool.
Hey, business decision. Capitalism at work.
Now let the markets decide.

Oops. So sry.

Colt lost a big contract to the US Army. They have plenty of other issues going on but sure, let's use this to make it seem they all of a sudden have had some sort of moral epiphany.
They've been losing business to FN and other arms makers.

I'm sure it was a part of negotiating this contract:

Why in the hell would a gun manufacturer still be located in Connecticut?

Investment bankers bought it and tried to suck every nickel they could out of it and sent them into Chapter 11 in 2015. They lost their sole source Military contract and couldn't compete in the civilian market.

Colt has been on the decline for several years. Making awful business decisions

Fix your title.
Suspending not ending.

Colt has already tried this and almost killed the company doing it, and it wasn't that long ago. Seems like they'd have learned a lesson.

Ruger and Smith have crowded them out of the entry level market. They won't lower themselves to compete at the $500 price range.
Most folks go homebrew, DD, BCM or things like that for mid-to-upper level rifles, so there is little room for Colt who thinks they own the market.
I'm not sure what Colt's "civilian" firearm strategy is in 2019.

I heard they've had some pretty serious QC problems in the past several years, but I'm not sure if true or if that was a reason that led to this decision.
Could also be that they're no longer the gold standard in the civilian AR world.

I have nothing against the AR, it's a fine piece.
I just wanted something else that was heavier and more brutal, like a PTR 91.

Can we convince leftists that since Colt holds the "AR-15" trademark this means AR-15s have been banned?
