College dorm security questions

Some of you may have read that there was a double murder up here in NW La. in a Grambling dorm. The perp is still at large. An official from GSU was interviewed and he said security regularly does unannounced inspections of dorm rooms looking for drugs or weapons.
We had no inspections when I was in a dorm but that was a very long time ago. Did your dorm have inspections? If so, did you have to be present? How often did they occur?

IIRC they had the authority to search. I don't remember them ever doing it.

I want to say they had authority to search the dorms as well, as well as cars parked on university campus. Don't remember them ever doing it either.

I stayed at Graham Hall in 95-96 and never had one. But then again, I was on a floor all by myself for 3 months until they locked my arse out one night after coming home at 3am

Lived on campus my freshman year. Never saw a dorm search

My son lives in Lakeshore West. He said they have done "walk throughs" where UAPD will walk through a room and to see if anything is left in the open. Usually looking for alcohol. They dont open drawers etc tho.

We had drug dogs walked around our hallways pretty regularly. If they had a reason they would check. Also they would come in over Christmas break.

I lived in Power. Kid a few doors down got busted trying to grow mushrooms. But I think someone narc’d on him. It wasn’t a random search.

Once a month at SLU. Don't even get me started for the amount of times SLUPD "heard loud music" at 2 AM on a Thursday night and walked into the on-campus fraternity houses. Living on campus was legit like living in the USSR.

the only time I remember having inspections at Ga Tech was when they would check to make sure we didn't have unapproved appliances or something. Really odd.

Maybe some fool started a fire with a hot plate so there was a crack down.
