As soon as I heard this new "suspect" I thought "this is a big lot of horse crap".

I did buy the woman cop one; even if she had vid of her playing with her puppies. Things like that can be faked.

They just can't help themselves, every story gets a spin to make it Trump's fault.

What I'm saying isn't registering with you then. The 'allegations' whether legit or pure fiction, are one thing. I'm asking how does any of it square up with the fact that the pipe bombs were just allowed to sit there, while people, kids even, casually walked by.

If the threat was real, or suspected to be real, who can justify those inactions by L.E. ?

We're talking idiocracy levels of incompetence OR they knew.

There's video, I believe, of folks (FBI, CPD, whatever) monitoring the bombs, yet allowing people to causally walk right by them. What's that all about?

Supposedly Patel brought in special people and they have been tirelessly working on this cold case for months. What happened to the other agents that said with the lead agent that the cell phones were accidently deleted/corrupted?

Will the FBI be hauling in this FBI lead man in charge and Wray?

In 2023, Steve D'Antuono-- who was Assistant Director of the FBI field office in DC during and after January 6-- testified to the House Judiciary Committee that the cell phone data of the J6 pipe bomber had been "corrupted by one of the providers."

According to the Brian Cole Jr. arrest affidavit, the FBI used data from his cell phone provider to track him to the vicinity of the RNC and DNC on the night of January 5.

Seems very likely that D'Antuono-- who went on to lead the FBI's effort to round up all the J6 protesters-- lied to Congress about cell phone data being corrupted.
As well as, explain that the bombs were said to be training bombs used at FBI Quantico? But now they are reputably real that could have gone off?

What about the man in the truck on J5 or was it J6 that had eleventy hundred shotguns in his truck?

It's not just the mistake, it's the fact that even with basic data CNN is ALWAYS crafting a narrative. Cole being white fits the narrative of "CRAZED MAGA!" If Tapper had known he were black, he would NEVER have mentioned race because it undercuts the "CRAZED MAGA" narrative of J6.

There is simply no way Tapper would have said, "The suspect is 30 year old Brian Cole, Jr., a black man...."

Well, at this point I'd call it a 'story', not even allegations. Because nothing matches up to what was known beforehand.

in the most technical and legal sense, yes. But I think most folks are sensing a patsy here.

Wouldn't be the 1st time we've seen justice being weaponized for political reasons.

Every administration since I have been alive has done it.

Both 46 and 47 have certainly kicked it up a notch, though

@Grok

quote:

No, Steve D'Antuono was not fired from the FBI. He voluntarily retired from his position as Assistant Director in Charge of the Washington Field Office on December 2, 2022, after a 26-year career with the bureau.

Background and Career Context

Appointment to the Role: D'Antuono was named Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI's Washington Field Office (WFO)—the bureau's largest and most influential field office—in October 2020 by then-FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Prior to this, he had served as Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Office (since 2019) and held various roles in financial crimes, public corruption, and counterintelligence investigations.

Key Investigations Under His Oversight: During his tenure at WFO,

D'Antuono led major probes, including:The FBI's investigation into the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, where he publicly updated on arrests and noted the involvement of confidential human sources (CHSs) from other field offices—some attending on their own initiative, others directed by handlers.

The 2020 plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, which originated in Detroit and involved FBI informants.

Early stages of the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump, including tensions with the Department of Justice (DOJ) over the August 2022 Mar-a-Lago search. D'Antuono expressed concerns about rushing the warrant without first seeking consent, citing risks to public trust in the FBI, but ultimately oversaw the operation.

Details of His Departure Announcement: On December 2, 2022, D'Antuono posted on LinkedIn that it was his last day, stating: "After a 26-year, 10-month career with the FBI, I chose to retire...

Since making the decision to retire and it becoming more widely known throughout the Bureau, I’ve been reflecting with colleagues and family about my time in the FBI." He began as a forensic accountant in 1996 and became a special agent in 1998.

Timing and Speculation: His retirement came just weeks after House Republicans, upon regaining control of the chamber in the November 2022 midterms, announced plans to investigate the FBI's "operations and actions," focusing on the January 6 probe, the Whitmer plot (criticized for heavy informant use), and broader politicization claims.

Some outlets described the exit as "ahead of" this scrutiny, but D'Antuono framed it as a personal choice after reflection. There are no public records or reports indicating he was pushed out, demoted, or terminated—unlike recent 2025 firings of other WFO leaders (e.g., Steven Jensen in August 2025 under Director Kash Patel).

Post-Retirement Activities: Since leaving, D'Antuono has transitioned to the private sector and cooperated with congressional inquiries:In June 2023, he testified (in a closed-door House Judiciary Committee interview) about FBI-DOJ disagreements on the Mar-a-Lago search, revealing he advocated for a consensual approach to avoid eroding public trust.

In September 2023, he confirmed to the committee that FBI informants were present at January 6 events, with some known in advance by handlers.

In a September 2024 NBC News interview, his first on-the-record media appearance about Mar-a-Lago, he reiterated concerns about the search's optics and personal clashes with DOJ officials like George Toscas.

Why the Confusion Around "Firing"? Recent headlines about FBI purges under the second Trump administration (e.g., August–November 2025 firings of agents tied to Trump probes) have involved WFO figures like Steven Jensen and Brian Driscoll, leading to some misattribution in social media (e.g., a March 2025 CNN Facebook post likely referring to Jensen).

No credible sources—from FBI announcements, congressional records, or news outlets like Politico, NBC News, or The Washington Times—describe D'Antuono's exit as involuntary. He has consistently been referred to as "retired" in subsequent coverage.
Until this guy is unretired and hauled in with Wray. Maybe a special commission or tribunal, as the FBI doesn't seem to haul in the FBI for even questioning very well...

I won't take Patel and Bongino seriously.

The FBI has been rotted since Ruby Ridge, Elian Gonzalez, Waco. They need dismantled. No more pretending games with THIS FBI- like they are no longer embedded with snakes...

Comey alone hauled in Martha Stewart. And he was skated along with now SOL's. I don't think Trump or Patel GETS that they will arrest Trump's family and then us, after stacking the supreme court and rising up Mamdani.

Despite what Hollywood has tried to tell us, has there EVER been a time when the FBI was remotely the agency people imagined it being? Or has it been a colossal garbage heap, since J Edgar Hoover became its first director? Back in 1935.

Thanks for posting, Bunk.

Jesse's guest seems a bit dim-witted.

Like most here, I think the J6 arrests/prosecutions were designed to crush support for Trump and to distract from THE question which animated the protests: was the election stolen?

If you accept that the investigations, arrests, and prosecutions were politically motivated, the crown jewel would have been to arrest the pipe bomber and show he was MAGA. Not to mention, if these bombs were viable (who still buys that bullshite???) wouldn't the FBI want to be heroes by solving that case????

If the stand-down order were political, FBI leadership had to know the culprit was NOT MAGA.

Reminder -

Russiagate was a fully funded and weaponized hoax by the DOJ and Executive Branch (under Barack Obama)

4 FISA warrants were issued on an unvetted doc, the Steele dossier, which the American public were told could never happen. It happened.

2 impeachment trails were put on by Democrats for overtly political reasons. The 2nd one being completely illegal and w/o merit.

Fake indictments levied against a former President were all baseless and politically motivated.

Lawfare which universally is recognized as excessive was meant to keep a candidate out of office.

Removal of a candidate from state wide ballots illegally.

Raid of Mar a lago for documents the former President was lawfully allowed to have, was known to have and with the full understanding by NARA. Locked in a room on property with both private and SS security.

Do I REALLY need to go on? Because I can.

The false depiction of the crazy conspiratorial MAGA supporter is gaslighting by the very people who wanted Trump kept from running again.

Thanks, Angelle. I agree with you that D'Antuono is probably the best thread to pull.

Apparently, Patel and Bongino encouraged the new team to do what the old (still-employed?) team didn't...and that solved the case. Kudos to them if that's what happened. Personally, I'm not 100% sure that Cole wasn't known by name to the FBI in 2021.

From the tone of how this story is rolling out, I think we won't hear anything that explains the outstanding questions.

I would guess this dude and family have always been a far left loon type. I would also guess a lawyer got to them and told them to pretend to be a maga type and than argue this loon would qualify for the trump pardons issued to j6 folks. I also think this whole case is weird and something is off
