Clemency for minor drug offenses

I’m not sure how realistic this is, but man I’d love to see Trump give clemency to all of the people in jail who have been locked up for minor drug charges.
It would save tax dollars being spent to house and feed, it would help the economy by providing more earners and buyers, and it’s just the right thing to do.
Oh and give pardons to all of the former inmates for bullshite charges

A better question is how many people can't find sustainable, gainful employment because of a past drug conviction and therefore have a higher probability of remaining outside the margins.

Anyone in jail for a non-distribution type drug charge with no violent crime extenuating circumstances should get a full pardon and have their records washed completely of it ever happening. You really want to end the welfare state? Stop locking up the people who should be providing for their children and marrying their chikdren’s mothers. Instead of those women being married to the government. The war on drugs has done as much to destroy the black family as anything else.

Exactly this. I’d rather get these people out and support themselves than have them rot in jail on our dimes.
I’ve never been arrested in my life, but I know many people have been arrested and gotten ridiculous sentences since Bill Clinton enacted 3 strikes laws.

The prison lobby would have a fit if this happened. They need jails to be full.
Generally I support privatization. But when it comes to prisons, it makes no sense. When you privatize a prison, the incentive for everyone involved is to lock up as many people as possible. Can't endorse that.
