A prominent civil rights group is marking Martin Luther King Jr. Day by pressing President Trump to honor his promise to create a national photo ID card for citizens.

Martin Luther King III, the oldest son of the iconic civil rights leader and a co-chairmen of the Drum Major Institute, met with Trump two years ago on MLK Day. During that meeting, the then president-elect endorsed the idea of a national photo ID. This year, the group is calling on Trump to follow through.

Don’t we already have that? Can’t anybody go to the DMV and get an ID card?

They can, but Libs think that black folks are too dumb to be able to do so.

IF it is for citizens only, then it should be used for all governmental interactions.

loans
opening bank accounts
receiving any form of welfare
voting
starting a job

Sounds like a grand idea.

I agree but something tells me that’s not what they have in mind.

Here in Trinidad we have one, its issued by the elections and boundaries departments, some transactions will not accept a Drivers License...but they will a National ID card.

And when you vote.....they ONLY accept a National ID card, they laugh that as a 3rd World we have one and the US is still paying illegals to live there and wonder why more want to come.

Provided that the government supplies the ID at no cost, and distributes them to everyone, I don't see how a person could oppose this.

It would solve the problem of people without driver's licenses needing identification, and would standardize travel documentation such as passports, etc. Of course a free, national ID would also solve the Voter ID debate as it would no longer be an infringement on the franchise at all.

It is strange in a country as large as ours, with so many processes involving ID verification, that we do not have a national ID. (Doesn't have to be fed gov issued, but the Feds would have to pay the states if it were a state-issued card under a federal mandate)

If this is how it’s used I would be more than for it.

Also, never knew we had someone from Trinidad here.

is this true in all states?

even if it is, it is not "national"

and I am all for this if it includes language for voter ID
