Reported the WSJ this morning.

Does that mean the retaliatory tariffs are having a bigger impact than Trumps tariff?

Does that demonstrate that trade wars are foolish?

How about the steel tariffs? Have our imports gone down or have tariffs meant only higher prices for Americans and more profits for the protected US steel makers?

Just asking

Factory orders ramped up to beat the tariff active date and unloading inventory.....

no brainier that you want to get you order in and delivered before a price increase. We had vendors tell us that prices are going up on X date, get your orders in by x date to lock in old costs.

Thanks

I foolishly thought the drastic reduction in Chinese purchases of US goods were a large contributor. Foolish me—those soybeans piled up around the country mean nothing.

Weakening global economy, strengthening US dollar.

It's nice to put an economic dagger in the belly of China and still get cheap consumer goods...or are you still complaining?

Google it

It is headline news on all the business networks.

Maybe Trump posted his Bozo tweet to try to keep the news off the headlines.

The WSJ is behind a pay wall.

I apologize if the questions are challenging for most of you.

Well it means that they're a state controlled economy and you either fall in line or you aren't a business (or free, or alive, for that matter) anymore. It means that Americans are addicted to cheap Chinese shite and our companies are unwilling to diversify their supply chain. It probably also means that retailers overbought items that were on the higher tariff list (that has since been delayed) in order to keep items in inventory in case the tariffs were implemented.

You are relentless in your defense of China. I bet you can't wait until your Chinese overlords surpass U.S. economic power. It'll be great for all of us to live with them as the biggest fish in the pond.

I relentless defend Americans from big government tyranny.

Only in twisted minds here is opposition to taxes on goods and services imposed by the government on purchases by Americans somehow bad.

The problem is not selling the soybeans, its subsidizing them, you always get more, according to the USDA for 2018....

US soybean production estimated at record high: USDA

Most of the chinese soybeans are being sold to Brazil and on to china. Their exports to china have doubled, which is tough to do when your soybeans have already been sold on contract......facts are a terrible thing IB.

All time annual record, and another report says US exports to china in Dec down 36% due to those poor soybean farmers (you know ADM etc).

So why is the stock mkt in china and HK tanking and the offshore renminbi declining, this just makes no sense....

Lets look at some unbiased reports like Financial Times. Ah ha, seems overall exports for chini in DEC actually declined for the first time in years. But isnt the US their largest customer? UM hmmm, seems exports to the US in DEC declined for the first time in years, thats declined, not just a lower percentage. And to make matters worse, imports for raw materials into china are tanking as well, which portends even more decline.

To make matters worse, what they do sell to US, now that the importers are off their sugar high of loading in inventory, will have to be discounted to offset the tariffs.

Oh and those soybeans, Brazil, who has already sold their soybeans via contract, for some reason is buying millions of tons from the US, and even though their beans were already sold they somehow doubled their shipments to china. Hmm remember how Trump was sick of china doing a work around on steel tariffs and selling it into NAFTA? Well it seems just like Patton learned from Rommel, we have learned a little about trading sneakiness from the chinese.

Somewhere Lighthizer and Navarro are saying, hold my beer boss we got this one....

You should be able to post a link to the exports to Brazil of US soybeans instead of just pulling such a stupid statement out of corners of your convoluted mind.

I think the board would appreciate evidence that one of, if not the largest producers of soybeans in the world is importing soybeans from the United States in a meaningful way as you contend.
