Xi better figure out the ole "NK may pull out of nuke talks" aint gonna work this time. We will just ruin your economy til ole Kim wants to talk again. And you will stop stealing our shite, and you will offer decent trade deals.
Expect Trump to work on EU free trade in return for giving them some slack on NATO, and an alliance to team up and go after those chinese pricks.

how can we ruin their economy when....
they are a communist country and can manipulate their own economy.
they own most of the US debt
the US as a singular trading antagonist of China has no chance of outlasting China, but hey Trump pulled us out of TPP which actually gave us a gang of several nations that could have mutually put pressure on China...

We can, to a certain extent, ruin their economy because we are the largest consumers of their products. If they were actually an autarkic communist country, then yeah, they could probably manipulate their economy (to the ends of starvation), but they are part of the global market.

In terms of foreign holders, yeah. The largest holders of U.S. debt are the American government and American citizens.

False. The Social Security Trust fund owns most of it. LINK

That’s a rather narrow-minded view of our allies. Japan and South Korea in particular have a vested interest in undermining China’s geopolitical strength in the region, even without TPP; as does every nation with a labor/manufacturing based economy.
It’s been interesting watching liberals defend a trade deal that benefited big corporations under the guise of national security or that it would somehow force China to liberalize their economy. You know, since China has such a great track record of following fair trade agreements.

Woooo, a "gang" of nations, which includes Brunei (with a GDP, seriously, less than Montgomery, AL) Im sure that scared China. Being part of TPP would be equiv to NAFTA, howd that work out for the US???
Bi lateral trade deals are the way to go, it maximizes our "purchasing power".

First, since the chinese stock market has had the worst declines in the world (other than that disaster Argentina) since the trade talks started, Id say the entire investment world kinda, sorta, believes Trump may kick their economic arse.
And what does China think, well for the first time in eons they did not follow the feds interest increase with one of their own. In fact they REDUCED the min cash on hand required by state banks, and started to loosen the credit for the small biz sector, even though THEY ARE SWIMMING IN DEBT and have been downgraded by most major financial houses because of it.
The chinese economy lives off exports, the US does not. They are communist so every trade dollar they lose they dont just lose the tax dollar they lose the profit because they own the company. Couple this with the fact their economy is about half ours, every dollar we lose in trade to them is about equivalent to four dollars for them.
They will give us free trade, they will stop stealing IP, and they will stop fricking around with NK, or we will break the little bitches.
On a side note, regarding debt, they owe us close to a trillion from ww2 that they refuse to repay...Im just sayin.

Even with the debt included, it is a fraction of how much of their annual GDP we account for. China has more to lose than us.

Uh, do you not understand the economics of communist countries?
It doesn't mean they can artificially make themselves rich. It means they manipulate their economy at the expense of people starving.
They can't magically make up for the largest consumers of their products disappearing.
