Charlottesville - how did it start?
Posted by baybeefeetz on 7/6/19 at 7:01 pm49
I swear I recall it starting out as your basic protest against the removal of confederate statues, and we all know there are various reasons people protest that. But now I’m researching it and everything I read refers to it as the Unite the Right rally organized by Richard Spender and white supremacists. Anybody else get this whole story wrong?

Dem operatives and the mayor turned it into a shiftest

Money from left-wing groups was given to paid actors to foment violence and violence occurred. It was originally a protest of Lee's statue removal, which is normally your run of the mill SCV and League of the South types, neither of whom are alt-right in the slightest.

It started with the statue removal movement. A couple of transplants ended up on city council, and they decided to reshape the city in their image.
Virginia law prohibits the removal of war monuments, so it was just grandstanding.
But they pushed ahead with the vote anyway.
Unite the Right, no idea how that got started, but it was a reaction to the city council.

McAuliffe is an execrable person.

People who were peacefully protesting with a permit were met by violent far left militants who had no permit and no right to be there.

Same.
I don’t go home anymore. Home is long since gone.

Last time i was there i did not recognize it. Once nice neighborhoods were run down with blacks and whites on porches doing nothing like you'd expect in a ghetto. Meth has apparently taken over.
Where i grew up, we didn't lock our doors.

Unite the Right had official permits.
The counterprotestors, who started the violence, did not have a permit.

After months of right supremacist website chatter, on the Daily Stormer and other far right sites, the leaders of the white supremacy movement, including David Duke and the leaders of other similar organizations, descended on Charlottesville to stage a march where they chanted things like “blood and soil” and other neo Nazi slogans. One loon, apparently acting alone, drive his car into some counter protesters and murdered a lady named Heather Heyer. Heather Heyer was just walking down a street when she was murdered.
There is a good documentary about the event, in which the organizers explain it in their own words, Here

When Trump says there were good people there, he wasn't lying. Any time a Confederate statue is to be removed in the South, there are generally two groups that protest: i) Sons of Confederate Veterans; and ii) League of the South.
Neither of these groups have anything to do with the alt-right. The vast majority of them are either Pat Buchanan paleocons or Ron Paul libertarian types.

Not to mention that city councilman Wes Bellamy, a far left anti-white bigot, helped organize the Antifa terrorists in the first place.
He, McAuliffe, & whomever gave the police the stand down order for the peaceful protesters to be attacked by violent terrorists should be hanged.

bullshite. Heyer, who was morbidly obese, died from a heart attack while she was rioting.
May she rot in Hell.

Please amend your post to let everyone know exactly who had permits to legally assemble and who didn’t. There is no violence at all if the people breaking the law don’t show up.

I don’t know if it’s better or worse, but they turned farm land into a sea of McMansions. And any real culture was swept away by a flood of franchised stores and restaurants.
It’s just, bland.
And most people seem to spend their days sitting behind their wheel, in gridlock.
I find their vapid lives, offensive, when I consider what that area used to be.
My family has lived in Virginia for 400 years, we’re buried up an down the state, so I feel a sense of, ownership. Whether that’s fair or not.
Ultimately these people aren’t us. And I resent that.

I'm with you. Even in the 80s we'd tell people that nova was not really Virginia.
I hate what the state has become.
