Maybe not in the next 50 years but it will eventually happen one way or the other. Nothing lasts forever and the United States of America will eventually cease to be no more.
And when we do eventually balkanize, we will be happier and more focused on our communities than ever before. Large global entities are not and will never be sources of happiness. Small nation-states is where it's at.

50 years is a long time, D. Did you listen to Charles Payne on Fox this morning? Even he realizes that Universal Basic Income will be a norm within a decade. Balkanization will be a moot issue re the kind of change that is in the pipeline. Though your point and the possibility of major Ideological conflict, is valid. In fact, the odds for some sort of population 'adjustment', via Nuclear, Bio or "Space Force" tech that we don't yet imagine...are far more likely than the relative luxury of Balkanizing.
Pray that there is a loving God, who'll guide us through. Otherwise, it's likely the Fermi Paradox.

I don't think countries are supposed to be as big as the US and also 100% democratic and open. The only countries nearly as big as us (i.e. Russia, China) all have significant "drawbacks" that allow the government to operate fluidly and without people rioting because someone said a mean thing. I think we may see a regionalized system (States > Region > Limited Federal Government) before we see full on succession however
