CFPB deputy chief to resign, ceding legal challenge to Trump

Leandra English, deputy director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, said Friday that she will resign from the agency and end her legal bid to claim control of the regulator.
English said in a statement that she will leave the CFPB “early next week,” citing President Trump’s nomination of permanent director for the bureau. She will also end her lawsuit against Trump and Acting CFPB Director Mick Mulvaney, who the president appointed to lead the bureau in November, said her attorney, Deepak Gupta.

English’s resignation will end her unsuccessful claim to be the bureau’s chief that began with the departure of former CFPB Director Richard Cordray on Nov. 24. Cordray appointed English, his former chief of staff, to be the CFPB’s deputy director moments before he resigned from the agency to run for Ohio governor.

Cordray’s elevation of English was an attempt to handpick his successor and defend five years of aggressive regulation of the financial services industry. Under the Dodd-Frank Act, the 2010 bank reform law that established the CFPB, the bureau’s deputy director is charged with leading the bureau until the Senate confirms a permanent chief.
Pretty astonishing this law suite even lasted as long as it did. Also didn’t even make any waves through the media.
Trumps appointment, Kathy Kraninger, is still waiting for her confirmation hearing which is July 19 to be the CFPB permanent director.

The CFPB is the most useless agency in the government. Literally everything that is does was already performed by other agencies. It is the best example of wasting public resources I can think of. Even better, they have little oversight, and are not answerable to congress at all.

CFPB is money laundering using the authority, the badges, and the guns of the federal govt.

Little? Try zero.
The head of the CFPB can basically unilaterally extort millions of dollars from companies with no regard to due process and Congress has absolutely no oversight powers over them. Mulvaney hammered away on that as a Rep and has deliberately disregarded all complaints from Warren and Co, citing the law they wrote.

That whole agency is a liberal cesspool handpicked by Obama.
