passengers left

Ugh

quote:

The virus “was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures had been conducted,” the researchers wrote, adding that the finding doesn’t necessarily mean the virus spread by surface.

Let's hope the bolded is the key part.

Good thing it wasn't the flu surfing that long. Could've had a higher mortality rate.

How many?

Btw - that's 500% longer than any other surface/location published.

Sounds to me like the Princess crew did a piss poor job of cleaning.

I read that the long term life of the virus on surfaces does not mean that it will make a person ill. The virus is in a very weakened state after a very short period.

It probably has more to do with the environment on a cruise ship. It is not unheard of for outbreaks to happen on them. The air is horrible in them.

This is 2-3 times as long as it has been reported to be viable in the environment by anyone else. Link to the source?

EDIT: “The RNA, the genetic material of the virus that causes COVID-19, “was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures had been conducted,””

So 1. Not necessarily viable as a source of infection and 2. Before cleaning.

Yawn.
