Can you love America and be a Globalist?
Spin off from the Mexico not bowing to tariff pressure for NAFTA thread. Someone is being told they do not love America because they have globalist desires. This brought up a good question to me.

Can you genuinely love America, the principles it was founded on, and the idea of what America is, and still desire some kind of global society? Are those two ideas mutually exclusive from each other, or are they still compatible?

Every single American is a globalist whether they like it or not

You are basically asking if you can be for truly free markets and love America.

The answer is yes.

I didn't see the thread in question. So, since the word globalist has a VERY wide potential definition depending on the user, I need more info.

I don't see why not. At least as I understand the term globalist.

I think a global society benefits America.

That doesn't mean it's beneficial regardless of how the globe behaves and 100% of the time.

Kinda like I think husbands are beneficial to wives.........but not if they beat them.

Yes, next question.

I suspect your definition of “globalist” is a fairly extreme one so I will hedge and say that I am totally fine with free global trade that acknowledges the strengths and weaknesses of producing and consuming certain goods.

I guess I get all the globalists/nationalists labels but why can't we have a little bit of both? Let's Goldilocks this thing.

If you understand the centrality of the United States to the international order and the benefits our country derives from that, how can you love America and not be an internationalist?

This thread would appear to be based on the flawed idea that if you do not support all globalist ideas, you hate everything about globalism.

I friggin love globalism!

Given geopolitical realities, I'd prefer America led globalism rather than China. Globalization will occur whether we want it or not. Unless you can ensure that other countries won't take advantage of you, decentralization for it's own sake is a terrible idea, geopolitically.

As to commerce, two methods occur. 1. By friendly arrangements with the several nations with whom these restrictions exist; Or, 2. By the separate act of our own legislatures for countervailing their effects.

There can be no doubt but that of these two, friendly arrangements is the most eligible. Instead of embarrassing commerce under piles of regulating laws, duties, and prohibitions, could it be relieved from all its shackles in all parts of the world, could every country be employed in producing that which nature has best fitted it to produce, and each be free to exchange with others mutual surplusses for mutual wants, the greatest mass possible would then be produced of those things which contribute to human life and human happiness; the numbers of mankind would be increased, and their condition bettered.

It's an older term than "globalist" and, I suppose, means roughly the same thing in our common vernacular. You guys have permission to adopt it.

For flip houses I buy cabinets from China and have them installed by Mexicans and the money I save makes me a happy American. So yes.

I think the disconnect is when national sovereignity is compromised. Overtime, the Earth has gotten smaller and smaller due to improvements with transportation and communications, so I think the idea of a global society has already happened. I think the resistance comes when we try to decide how to govern.
