Can we make the USPS private or dismantle it already?

The Constitution states Congress has the power to establish a Post Office and postal roads, not that they have to. USPS is just a government agency toting junk mail that no one wants. Mail that I’ve tried so hard to opt out of and yet it still comes.
Essentially any service or business of substance that bills people allows online payments. Phone books are really not needed anymore and haven’t been for a long time. Amazon 9/10 for me uses UPS.
The USPS also has some of the laziest and slowest workers in existence at their post offices. No matter where I am, they always have an attitude or are just unapproachable despite having a cushy federal government job and the benefits that come with it.
Britain privatized the Royal Mail and it seems to work for them. UPS Store is just also a way better experience when it comes to shipping things.

I trust "anonymity" thru the postal service more than I do our internet service. My mailbox has never been hacked to get personal information about me. The internet, not so much.

Was expecting a package to be delivered by USPS yesterday, “by 8:00 pm”.
Sat watching sports in the afternoon and evening, about 10 feet from my front door and mailbox. Nobody walked onto my porch during that time.
USPS web site says a delivery attempt was made at 6:11 pm and a notification was left at my address. No and no.

Didn’t know this. I’ll have to read more about it.

If it was private I don't know how you would deliver to sparsely populated areas.

Do UPS & Fed-Ex refuse to deliver to the country??
I've never tried to ship anything there, so I really don't know??

I get good service from the USPS. Overall, the USPS is doing far better than a few years ago. I don't doubt it still sucks in some places though. Needless to say, you won't see the USPS ended anytime soon bc of their union.

We need to keep it as a example to point to every time the left wants a government entity to run some aspect of our lives.

I go regularly to the P.O. and am disappointed and frustrated most of the time. Ours is only open 8-4:30. And, they stop service for 45 minutes for lunch, 11:30 to 12:15. I have to go often in my lunch hour 12-1 and have to wait until they finish lunch with all 3 employees eating at the same time, sitting in the back ignoring customers. With 3 people, they could rotate it and be open at our lunch time. They also go to the back for breaks which is more important than service. It's gov't employees union doing this stuff. Turn it over to UPS or FedEx and let them run it right, to take care of customers, not breaks, lunch, and time off.

I’m a hardcore conservative, but USPS isn’t that bad. They used to suck and be a whipping boy for guys like us, by they have gotten their acts together. It’s like 50 cents to send a formal letter from anywhere in the country to anywhere else in the country. FedEx and UPS don’t even want to try to own that market.

I'm sure they would if you paid them enough.
Why are urban dwellers required to subsidize mail delivery to rural areas?

Did it occur to you that it doesn't actually cost 50 cents to send a formal letter from anywhere in the country to anywhere else in the country?
ETA: Two years old, but I imagine most of the points still stand: LINK /

My mom lives in one of the most sparsely populated parishes (counties for you non-Louisiana heathens) in the country. UPS and Fedex are much more reliable than the USPS.

It was attempted a long time ago. Like in the 1800s. The private competition was banned because govt postal positions were used as patronage. If you supported the winning candidate you got a job at the post office.

That is how Lincoln bought off the support he needed to pass the 13th Amendment.

Had an extremely important Christmas gift- the wife's- shipped 2 day from California. The retailer and I assumed it would take 3 days.... still didn't come in. frick usps

Out of all of my online christmas purchases, two were shipped USPS. Everything else was UPS. Everything came in on time except the two packages shipped USPS. One was two days late because they delivered it to the wrong address . The other one had 10 days to ship from Michigan to Arkansas. It sat in Michigan for almost a week and arrived in Memphis yesterday. I won't get it until after Christmas. It was supposed to be guaranteed by 8PM last night, but their guarantees mean nothing. USPS sucks.
