Can We Learn One Thing From This Witch Hunt?

If we learn one thing it should be this: Never talk to the police. Tell them to either arrest you or go pound sand. You gain absolutely NOTHING (ever) by talking to them even if you're 100% innocent.

Here's a list of prosecutions/pleas in this fiasco that were a direct result of people being stupid:

1) Flynn (If he doesn't talk, none of this happens)

2) Papadizzle (He should have refused to talk - they got him for lying about something that was no crime)

3) Corsi (baffling to me what he thought he had to gain by talking to Mueller, especially after Flynn and Papa had already been railroaded).

4) Cohen (He talked himself into a 3 year prison term).

The only legit criminal here is probably Manafort, but that stuff happened long before Trump ran for office.

I highly recommend you spend 30 minutes and watch this excellent lecture by a law school professor on why you should never talk to the Police. He provides many hypothetical examples of how you can get yourself into big trouble, no matter how "sure" you are of yourself or your innocence. He goes into detail about why a 100% innocent person should also never talk to the Police.

He mentions that 86% of all federal prosecutions are the result of confessions or pleas. It is rare anyone is actually convicted of anything in federal court. He mentions several celebrity cases where the individual should have taken the 5th but didn't. Martha Stewart is one example (they got her for lying, not any actual underlying crime).
