Trump is claiming major expansion of US Steel and it's not happening according to their people.

quote:

Mr. Trump has referenced U.S. Steel at least twice in the last week or so, telling a roundtable with workers in Duluth, Minnesota, he'd received a call from the head of U.S. Steel, who relayed that the company would be, according to the president, "opening up six major facilities and expanding facilities that have never been expanded. They haven't been opened in many, many years."

The problem is that it seems to be made up out of thin air. Or if you're into conspiracies maybe the guy lied to Trump to set him up and look like a fool.

quote:

As a publicly traded company, U.S. Steel (X) is obliged to disclose materially significant information. To that end, the company has said it would restart two blast furnaces and steelmaking facilities at its Granite City Works integrated plant in Illinois, one in March and the second in October. U.S. Steel announced the first reopening in March, saying it would lead to 500 jobs, and the next in June, bringing on another 300 workers. The plant had been out of operation since 2015.

"We post all of our major operational announcements to our website and report them on earnings calls. Our most recent one pertained to our Granite City "A" blast furnace restart," emailed a U.S. Steel spokesperson, who declined to elaborate further.

One Wall Street analyst who tracks U.S. Steel and its industry did not mince words when asked about the presidential take. "There is no expansion," offered Charles Bradford of Bradford Research. In fact, he added of U.S. Steel's future: "it's likely to shrink."

All that has occurred is a plant closed temporarily by U.S. Steel a few years ago has been gradually reopening over the last several months, said Bradford, who offered the view that U.S. Steel has not kept pace with technology that allows mini mills equipped with electric furnaces to operate more efficiently.

It doesn't look like particularly bad news for US Steel but the question is why make shite up these days when the facts are so easy to find?

Oh so now we're just going to play that game

The spokesperson from the company denied it

The news source here isn't particularly important. You can find this widely reported from other sources

Not being familiar with the quotes you are referring to, I would ask if he was talking about the US steel industry or the US Sreel company

I guess the question might be why are you guys ok with blatant misinformation like this?

If this is an obvious lie and it clearly is then why believe anything else?

Look at the first paragraph that I quoted

There is no doubt at all that he is referring to the company and not the industry at large

So a single outside analyst, and a single employee make for this riveting evidence the POTUS is wrong?

And we do not know the question they were asked. Only the answer to some question.

So much for honest discussion.

Add to this, no one but the POTUS and his connections know where he got his info, his sources.

If he is referring to US Steel as a company and not the industry it is a lie. The reason I choose to believe anything else is because he has delivered on a lot of promises. Do I wish he didn't lie or stretch the truth? Yes. Does it bother me to the point where I will overlook what is actually getting done? No.

Look, I’m all for holding a man accountable for being wrong.

But with Trump you guys have cried wolf so many times and has come out and punked the shite out of you that I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt every single time.

Any reasonable person would do the same thing.

Yep, until they get a direct quote from the Head of US Steel denying Trump's claim, it is a BS story by CBS.

Obama couldn't take a shite in the morning without this board and the right generally melting about it, to the point where "Thanks, Obama!" became a national running joke yet I had no trouble at all calling out Corporate Barry on a regular basis.

Says the guy who thinks a private text from Milo Yiannopoulos to a journalist was a catalyst to someone shooting up a newspaper building.

Really rich coming from you.
