quote:

the Black national anthem ... ?
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I would. And I’d say I’m doing so because of the unacceptable rates of both black on black murders and black babies that are aborted. More black babies being aborted each year than born and black males, who compromise of 6% of the US population, accounting for nearly 6% of all American murders is a horrific injustice that demands action and real change. All of which I wholeheartedly agree with as a God-fearing, red-blooded, patriotic American. Call me the white Rosa Parks and name streets after me.

I admit I was unaware of these last two stanza of the anthem until very recently.

I have read and re-read it - don't even know what this phrase means.

"No refuge could save the hireling and slave" ==> does this imply Britain hired - or forced - people in the USA to join their fighting forces?

Or is it just referring to the fact that America at that time was a slave-holding area?

if that is the interpretation, the statement doesn't make sense.

Has anyone researched the meaning of this stanza??

I have bent my pick on trying to make sense of it.

Help???

In the lead up to the Ft McHenry, the Brits put out notice that any Blacks who joined the Army would be allowed immigration and freedom. A group joined force with the British. They subsequently suffered significant losses in a Maryland battle just before the assaults on Baltimore.

Key owned slaves. He freed all of them 10-15yrs after the war. He was a lawyer, and legally represented other slaves seeking freedom. So the targeted bloodlust directed at slaves in his poem is odd. But the 3rd verse lines likely expressed Key's feeling that US slaves joining the Brits were somehow traitorous turncoats, and in a sense of schadenfreude, they would end up dead because of their "treachery".

People should start saying that slaves had to kneel before their masters so when they kneel during the anthem they’re kneeling before the white man. That would frick their heads up. It that somehow got trending they’d never kneel again.

You can do what ever you want to do, as long as it doesn't impede on someone else's rights or well being...this 'merica bitch!

Why Not? They started it ...they can get used to anti stupid protests.

If I can be kicked out of a movie theater for standing during the National Anthem and a half assed bench sitter can draw attention to himself in protest ..then so can I.

"Woodstock" Jimi Hendrix began his version of the Natty ..... We stood as a football team. House lights came up and we were marched out of the base theater at Grant Heights, Tokyo, Japan. 30% of those guys we stood with ...went to Viet Nam the following year.

If you are going to protest .... have all your bases covered. When standing with the Base Commander's sons ...you simply get marched out.

be more effective if you stayed home and/or not watch the game...

this latest stunt by the NFL will do nothing but drive away even more fans for good...
