Calling for Clemson University to remove Howard's Rock and remove his name from the field

Named for and originally owned by renowned racist head coach Frank Howard. Howard refused to integrate his teams during the height of the Jim Crow era and was well known of being a racist. This rock and it's meaning has no place in today's society. African American athletes touch this rock every Saturday home games in the fall, not knowing that the original owner and namesake wouldn't have even let them on the team due to their race. We must stand up and remove this image of racism.

I apologize I meant integrate. Sorry for the confusion. Howard refused to integrate his football teams. Understandably in 1955, due to the laws he couldn't, but even in his later years of coaching past 1963, he continued to refuse recruiting to African Americans.

I understand your point, but even after integration in South Carolina, he continued to refuse recruiting to African Americans. Clemson's first African American player, Marion Reeves played in 1971, well past Howard's coaching tenure, while the University itself integrated in 1963

I'll go ahead and say it even though it isn't popular. No one should be required to touch a rock against their will. There's nothing more unAmerican than being forced to put a hand on stone. There is no place in our society for that.
I'll agree to remove Howard's Rock if black people agree to stop riding on the coattails of whites. They need to develop their own first world countries.
