Brietbart article

quote:

Citing the high CO2 emissions associated with cremation, the bill will give people the option to give their dead remains over to a process known as natural organic reduction (NOR) should they not want to be buried or cremated. “The process involves placing the body inside a long, reusable steel container along with wood chips and flowers to aerate it – allowing microbes and bacteria to break down the remains,” according to the Daily Mail. “One month later, the remains will fully decompose and be turned into soil.”

quote:

California Democrat Assemblymember Cristina Garcia, who authored the bill, praised NOR as a “more environmentally friendly” practice that will give people more options for their desired burial. She wrote: With climate change and sea-level rise as very real threats to our environment, this is an alternative method of final disposition that won’t contribute emissions into our atmosphere. I look forward to continuing my legacy to fight for clean air by using my reduced remains to plant a tree. The bill will make it illegal to combine human remains without permission or unless the two are related. It will also be illegal to sell the soil or use it for agricultural purposes

The law will not take effect until 2027 and follows the states of Washington, Colorado, and Oregon

What is WRONG with these people???

Why not just landfill the body? I know it will generate methane BUT pretty much all MSW landfills in CA have a LFGCCS in place already...

So, burial? Doesn’t decomposition released carbon gases?

Every single far leftist idea juuuust happens to be the exact correct thing we need to be doing to combat the crisis of climate change.

How lucky are we that our leaders have things already figured out!!

You may not agree with the motivation but what is your issue with the process?

Why don’t they just elect to be chunked into a mass grave without embalming or a coffin and just decompose that way? They could dig a 10 foot hole, stack em on top of each other, spray in some water, cover with dirt.

In 10 years you could do the same thing again in the same spot.

Being staked out in the ocean as fish food would be more environmentally friendly...

Well one problem is that that would produce methane gas. What they call a horrible greenhouse gas. So it solves nothing.

You know what… that’s right. Just feed em to the sharks. That would be the best way of getting rid of em.

I don’t care. They’re dead. Let their bodies be disposed of how they want and in what traditions they keep. If this gives some greenies a feeling that they’re making a difference I don’t see the problem here.

How is the environmentally and humanely safe? You will contaminate the land and people will get sick from crops.

Composting seems like a simple process but it only takes a little getting out of whack to create a pretty significant issue... Onesy twosey is probably not a big problem but when you talk about doing something like this on a wholesale level, it usually turns to crap and becomes a big issue...

I’m all for this.

Don’t want to do it?
Don’t.
But for me, I’d be fine with it.

When I finally go Home, my remaining, rotting flesh will be nothing but organic material.

Agreed. If this is voluntary and it’s what they want, have at it. Similar to organ donating.

This isn’t the hill to die on/be upset about regarding climate change bullshite

(I’m sure there a joke in there somewhere about composting and the “hill to die on” but I’m too tired to dig through it…)
