Was 64 billion.

boondoggle

quote:

California’s contentious bullet train project will cost $77 billion, a 20 percent spike from estimates two years ago, according to a report released on Friday.

The state’s High-Speed Rail Authority revealed the price tag and a delayed timeline in a biennial project update. The 800-mile Los Angeles-to-San Francisco network is now scheduled to open in 2033, four years later than expected.

Republican state lawmakers and taxpayer advocates seized on the report. Some said it’s time to stop funding the rail project, which was approved by voters in 2008 but has experienced repeated cost overruns and delays.

“Every dollar spent on the high-speed rail project at this point is a wasted transportation dollar. Everything that they’ve promised about the high-speed rail project has turned out to be absolutely untrue,” Jon Coupal, president of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, told Capital Public Radio.

More incentive than ever for creating new high-speed, home-on-wheels for illegals. "The Sanctuary Express".

The cost is one thing. The 2033 completion date is absurd. That's still 15 years out. It has the potential to be a completely obsolete form of transportation by then

And at anytime, a major earthquake could occur and push that out even further. Sheesh, what a shite hole.

The first leg is 40% over budget and won’t finish for another 3 years. $77B will become $100B with the quickness for the overall program

Once a project crests 25% over initial budget and you haven't even completed the first phase, it's time to fire the project manager.

I doubt high speed rail infrastructure will be obsolete in the next 60 years....but 15 years for completion is bullshite.

Well the thing is will transportation even be that necessary at all for most people?

Society 15 years from now may require much less transportation. Can the cost of this really be justified to the people of California?

Any bets as to how many times the cost estimate is going to jump in the next 15 years?

That's a lot of money, to spend on what will eventually be, just another thing for people to literally shite on, in California.
