So Newsom signs an EO saying any new car sales can't have a combustible engine. This was just discussed on the Five. After all the discussion not one panelist asked the question - so where will they get the energy from to supply all these new electric cars? CA already has brownouts because they can't produce enough electricity so I'm just wondering how this new EO will be carried out successfully. Maybe I need to take Juan's place.

quote:

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an ambitious executive order Wednesday that would ban the sale of new combustion-engine vehicles in the state starting in 2035, the Desert Sun reports. The order is part of a package of policy changes aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions as California deals with a rash of deadly wildfires.

The executive order would not prohibit Californians from owning gas-powered vehicles, nor from selling them on the used car market. It only applies to new vehicle sales in the state, Newsom said.

“Cars shouldn’t give our kids asthma,” the governor tweeted. “Make wildfires worse. Melt glaciers. Or raise sea levels.”

Banning the sale of combustion-engine vehicles follows the news earlier this year that California would require all commercial trucks and vans sold in the state to be zero-emission by 2045. In total, California is the first state in the US to move to prohibit the sale of nearly all fossil fuel-burning vehicles in its borders.

Looks like the used car lots will be selling a ton of very low mileage, "2nd" owner vehicles.

And here I thought it was more environmentally friendly to buy used vehicles.

The infrastructure costs will absolutely be enormous.

I assume they’ll also impose heavy gas taxes to push people towards electric cars.

Just like a Demorat. Let’s not legislate, let’s dictate by eo, using a phone and a pen.

On a second note, they can buy Tesla’s at $50k for government. Why not.

What a shitshow.

Here in Ark. electric car owners have to pay a $100 fee for loss of revenue from gasoline sales. A lot of those people bitched about it but my answer to them was why should you get to use the highways for free when I don't and on top of that if the day comes where there are a majority of electrics on the road then who in the hell is going to pay for our highways.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Maybe they plan to use diesel generators.
