Why would Obama need to direct the FBI Director and a senior level DOJ official to do something "by the book".
How else would they do it?
Shouldn't Comey have been offended?
You tell the mail room to do something by the book.
Why would someone have to say this to the FBI Director?
Is there another way to do things? Someone should ask Comey and Obama why this was necessary?

The whole situation is ridiculous on its face to honest people. Susan Rice decides* to write a memo 2 weeks after the meeting memorializing that everything was above board and the email was to herself?

"By the book" doesn't really mean " do things by the book"
It means " send out a memo, and pretend that we wanted to do things by the book"

Why should the WH counsel have to bother himself with a meeting like this if everything were all above board?

Excellent observation. Reminds of the scene in "A Few Good Men" where Nicholson's character is being grilled on the stand by Tom Cruise's character.

Good point. This either implies there were many times they didn’t go by the book, or it was a fake email sent to herself for cover. Either way, it’s not good.

This email was directed as a memo by Susan Rice and the White house council to wipe their hands of all of the unmaskings and shenanigans and place it squarely on James Comey. That's all she was trying to do. This was a classic case of look at us doing everything by the book but man this suggestion by the FBI needs to be memorialized.

Because James Comey had proven months earlier that he was willing to go outside the lines to exonerate a Guilty as Hell Hillary Clinton. Again, under orders from Obama ...this was done purely for CYA reasons, should someone ever get their hands on the missing 11 minutes of tapes or the supposedly erased 31,000 emails.
Right now Comey is being poised as the sacrificial lamb. A Trump win ...and Durham has four years of sifting the trash out of the swamp. A Trump loss and the Democrats hide it all as if it never existed.
I believe we need the four more years for the country and for Admiral Rogers (Auburn Grad) and Flynn to expose where the rats are hiding.

But she kinda has herself in a pickle cause they have old interviews of her saying she knew nothing about the Flynn surveillance. Boy there were some clowns in that administration.
