this shite is legit hilarious only because of how slanted and biased this is. they all use big data and to act like they don't have questionable data via social media is just the height of comedy/sadness

They were banned last night at nearly the exact same time that the McCabe news came out.

This is what Winston is preemptively wining about
quote:

The data was collected through an app called thisisyourdigitallife, built by academic Aleksandr Kogan, separately from his work at Cambridge University. Through his company Global Science Research (GSR), in collaboration with Cambridge Analytica, hundreds of thousands of users were paid to take a personality test and agreed to have their data collected for academic use. However, the app also collected the information of the test-takers’ Facebook friends, leading to the accumulation of a data pool tens of millions-strong. Facebook’s “platform policy” allowed only collection of friends’ data to improve user experience in the app and barred it being sold on or used for advertising.
quote:

Cambridge Analytica’s chief executive, Alexander Nix, told the inquiry: “We do not work with Facebook data and we do not have Facebook data.”
quote:

Wylie, a Canadian data analytics expert who worked with Cambridge Analytica and Kogan to devise and implement the scheme, showed a dossier of evidence about the data misuse to the Observer which appears to raise questions about their testimony. He has passed it to the National Crime Agency’s cybercrime unit and the Information Commissioner’s Office. It includes emails, invoices, contracts and bank transfers that reveal more than 50 million profiles – mostly belonging to registered US voters – were harvested from the site in one of the largest-ever breaches of Facebook data.
quote:

Paul-Olivier Dehaye, a data protection specialist, who spearheaded the investigative efforts into the tech giant, said: “Facebook has denied and denied and denied this. It has misled MPs and congressional investigators and it’s failed in its duties to respect the law.
Looks like it’ll be worse for facebook than for trump. But really highlights just how much of the ‘wild west’ the internet still is. This sets the stage for a push to disclose political advertisements online the same way tv, radio and print already require. I doubt it moves the needle much as far as taking down trump though

FB is under intense scrutiny over "muh Russia" and will give the DEMs a bone to avoid federal regulation of their ad platform

you have to admit the severe conflict of interest at play

SFP nails it - god forbid that an outside campaign like Trump broke the mold and found an advantage.

If this had been Robby Mook he’d be hailed and feted and hired by Nike to run their marketing for record salary

I doubt trump's campaign even knew where the hell the data came from.

And am I supposed to believe this is uncommon practice?

Which is why I really don’t think this will adversly effect Trump to any significant degree.

It will likely be used as part of a oush to more highly regulate online political ads however. Which probably isn’t a terrible idea. We already require tv and radio politcal advertisements to identify the source of their funding. If we can do the same for online ads without infringing on free individual use (which is probably a huge if), it would be a net positive IMO

Just read the article. It's well-written and well-researched, and I do not feel that their target is trump in this case.

i mean the Obama campaign in 2012 crushed Romney using "Big data". are we to believe that somehow his campaign (i think it was much more directly "owned" by him) came to possessing all this data about hundreds of millions of US citizens without nefarious methods of their own?

any real investigation into any "Big data" operation will reveal the same exact murky areas created by social media

Leftists are screaming "Muh Russia" over it because the company may have done business in Russia.

Meanwhile let's tune in on the media coverage about the DNC and HRC's campaign with Fusion and their Russian ties (as well as HRC's failure to reveal her campaign funding of it in their finance reports)...
