I was surprised to learn girls are subjected to bullying more than boys.
You must not have known many girls.

You can be breathtakingly ignorant sometimes.

My kid goes to a public high school, and he has major stuttering issues. Also, his whole group of friends are nerds of every nationality. He was just telling me a couple days ago that the whole bullying thing is so blown out of proportion. He’s never really experienced it despite his stutter, and neither have his friends. If anything, they rag on each other about things like his stutter, their racial stereotypes, their nerdiness, etc., in a joking manner - but they never really experience bullying from other kids. It’s a non-issue.

I'm about your age and I agree with you. Back in the 70s, bullying was physical, or involved threats of physical harm. The definition of bullying has changed to include verbal and cyber. That would have been classified as teasing back then.
Language evolves. Addiction is another one that has changed. It used to mean a serious physical dependency that involved major physical witdrawal symptoms ( like with heroin). Now it seems any bad habit is called an "addiction".
Hang in there SR. Don't let these assholes "bully" you.

Yeah, I'm gonna disagree with this one.

Words aren't bullying
That's a complete bull shite modern construct
Physical bullying is another matter

Without a doubt one of the most ignorant posts I have read in my 14 years here.

Yet. If the tough guys can't handle that, then how do you expect teenagers to handle things exponentially worse?
That on 2018, people run to mommy or the help board is kinda my point
Teenagers absolutely DID handle it
They just don't anymore because no one even attempts to teach them to handle it
And trying to teach them when they're 16 is WAY late

Words aren't bullying
Period

Teenagers absolutely DID handle it
So whether people used to be able to handle it better or not, it was significantly easier to avoid it. So that alone is counter to your argument.

It's blown into grade proportion just like every news scare of course, but it does exist. I was bullied in middle school years ago.
Except I grew from it. Changed what made me weird and got me picked on, then suddenly the bullying stopped. I also finally stood up to them.
Now we coddle kids far to much. While I don't advocate bullying, it isn't as serious as it is made to be. These kids have deep emotional issues that is not because of bullying, or at least just because of it. They have far more issues than that.

The “bullying” mantra is a fig leaf for gay activists to have access to schools.

The left is bullying the NRA right now.

Dude. I didn't fall out of the sky 51 years old.
I am 63 years old, the bullying that took place in my high school was absolutely brutal. I often wonder what happened to the people that were constantly the target of it, and wish I had done something then to help them. At least in that era you could go home and escape, today with social media it follows the kids everywhere they go. Another thing you are wrong about is these kids don't run home and tell anyone, they internalize their turmoil.

I'm going to make a crazy suggestion here. Maybe. Just maybe, it would help reduce the number of students who think shooting all their friends because they were made to feel bad........
if..........
please stay with me here............
we go back to recognizing that WORDS aren't "bullying" and properly marginalize the very idea that they are. From a very early age. Ya know. Let's abandon this idea that we should teach people that any and all sleights against them should be met with an authoritarian swat rather than.......oh, I dunno.......a simple, "meh, your words don't matter to me" response.
Church.

I realize that in 2018, this seems like a crazy idea........but you might be stunned to learn that when I was a kid........if we went home saying, "Mommy, Johnny called me a mean name"...........Mommy didn't run to the school to get Johnny suspended. Mommy taught you that Johnny wasn't worth your time. She did that when you were like 5........so by the time you were 16, people calling you names was something you could laugh at.
Keep preachin.
