Britain Gives Up On Reaching A Trade Deal With EU

EU playing hardball, Boris says forget it, Britain will just trade with EU on WTO terms. Attention will now shift to a trade agreement with North America although the US election complicates the issue.
Per Daily Telegraph.
European stocks down.

US and GB were already in trade talks right?
I think they have enough time to come to an agreement on something.

Some preliminary discussions I think.

I hope the other non-EU European nations who abstained from member status at the beginning are watching this. They are basically just mad that the UK left and treating them differently out of spite. Take note, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland.

Switzerland may not have problems.
Merkel et all start fricking around and their numbered Swiss accounts start disappearing.

Yes, lower level reps from both sides have been talking since before Boris became PM.

2 countries coming to an amicable trade agreement isnt globalism

He's just playing hardball. They are not going to walk away from the E.U. negotiations for WTO terms indefinitely. The Irish situation alone would make that untenable long term.

The US can always use a fair trade partner.

Neither is a regional union of states. I'm not sure why globalism is even a part of this thread.

The EU will come to heel and kiss the ring, the City of London is its financial center and they can not live with out easy access to capital right now.

yes b/c it is as expansive of a concept as racism is, these days. i'm willing to listen to your definition though

What is the cutoff? the EU started off with 5 (Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherland). Now it's at 28.

Isn't Europe the reason City of London became powerful? One reason why most of London was overwhelmingly against Brexit?

It would have to be somewhere closer to global membership. I don’t understand how a regional union/federation is a globalism thing. Is the United States an inherently globalist institution? Or Russia?
