Don't they all get this so they can write their books? It is ridiculous.

Clearance should have ended the day they stopped working. Writing a book is not a legit reason to have a clearance. But the rules are different for them. And that's why we have so many problems in our govt right now.

Correct, and what some people don't seem to realize is that having clearance to view classified material doesn't equal having accesses to classified material.

Right, as if they have a SCIF in their homes so the information is just at their fingertips.

So can they go view classified documents or not?
If so, I can see these clown leaking selective shite to the media.

No. You need to have need to know and the proper classification. They don't have the need to know.

No, they can not, as has been pointed out, when you are approved for TS clearance, it's for five years, but simply having that clearance doesn't mean you can just show up and say "hey I have clearance show me this or that" that's not how it works.
The clearance simply means that you are cleared to see intel if the issuing agency chooses to let you see it. It's not a form that you can use to demand intel.
Much scare about nothing, those two arent getting access to current US intel. At least not above board.

I'm not at all surprised by this!

This is the technical piece but ignores reality. The reality is that these guys are given high side information all the time. Those that give it to them rationalize it by saying they occupied a position and still have a clearance. Also, leaving them in the system makes it very easy for them to get or retain access to people and places.
Let's not pretend 'need to know' is a great barrier. Manning proved that.
There needs to be a hard line - you leave, the clearance is gone. Period.
And this business about it lasting for 5 years is incorrect. The investigation gets renewed but the clearance doesn't automatically last. It can be suspended and cut at any time for any reason a commander or adjudicator feels is proper. (I realize you know this already)
We classify way too much stuff and we classify it way higher than it needs to go - this breeds complacency and leads people to rationalizing a loose approach to safeguarding the information. We also have too many people with clearances. This all contributes to the amount of leaks.

A lot of these people keep clearances through contracting gigs. Generally people dont have their clearances pulled after leaving their job. If someone is willing to pay for a new investigation, they can keep their clearance until death as long as they meet investigation reqs.

Brennan ranks up with Soros as the biggest POS on Earth. I would love to see all of his dirty deeds come to light. fricker should be in a black site prison.

Yeah, let's just assume that Clapper's commander was feeling charitable.

At least half the fricking board has or had a clearance, but we are surprised that Clapper and Brennan have one?

I think the people surprised they have it are the ones that haven't been in the mil or a govt job that needed a clearance. It doesn't surprise me at all, but I'm 100% against it.
Way too many people keep these clearances after govt work is done. And the number of contracting gigs, aside from instructors embedded within DoD or an agency, is ridiculous.

They would still have to have the “need to know” to access certain information. The TS/SCI doesn’t necessarily grant them access to everything at that level.
