White House press secretary Jen Psaki is under fire for the glib answer she gave to NPR’s Mara Liasson after she dared to ask why the Biden administration was putting in place such a complex system to reimburse the insured for the cost of their at-home tests instead of just making the tests available for free around the country.

Jen Psaki somewhat mockingly asks reporter at the White House Daily Press Briefing if the US should be sending out rapid #COVID19 tests to every household.
In the UK you can order 1 pack (containing 7 tests) everyday.

I'm appalled by this answer, in part due the the tone. But also it suggests no one is talking about doing this -- free, widely available tests -- even though many other countries are. I just do not get it.

When I was in the UK over the summer I walked into a pharmacy and said "can I have some tests" and they gave me seven for free, so yeah why not.

Last week I said the US government SHOULD mail free rapid tests out.
Apparently @PressSec disagrees and this is literally the worst minute at the WH podium she’s had.
Let’s go back to the drawing board.

I think you are missing the picture here.
They want anti vaxxers and the poor to pay for these so they just get the jab anyway.
They also don’t want positives coming back from the vaxxed.

It’s amazing how so many people think things like this are free...
I’m sure the test costs at least $10 to make.
Imagine if everybody in the US took one of these tests daily...
With 330 million people testing that’s $3.3 billion spent a day.
That’s $1.2 trillion a year...
Just for testing.

Making tests available at home should be a high priority. Not for free, but let people order the tests on amazon for a reasonable price. Or go to the store and buy some.
Nobody wants to go through the hurdles of getting tested at a facility every time they get a sore throat or the sniffles. I personally don't want to be responsible for spreading covid, but I'm also not going to stop what I'm doing just because I sneezed. If I have covid, I don't mind isolating to prevent spreading it. But it's such a pain in the dyck to get a test right now that I'm just going to go about my business like I have a cold, if it feels like I have a cold.
