Blacks and home ownership....putting cart before the horse
Shouldn’t the goal first and foremost be to raise black incomes so they can afford mortgage payments and other ownership costs on their own?

It seems like a needless waste of govt resources to artificially put more blacks (and other poor people) into homes without addressing their ability to afford it independent of govt.

Let it happen organically. As black incomes rise, home ownership will naturally rise.

If your goal is to build wealth, there are ways to do it besides home ownership. That’s where the focus should be.

Actually finishing school might be a good start for them.

It's basic human nature that you appreciate, maintain and protect things you worked for and bought yourself, as opposed to things given to you.

That takes time and isn’t something the Dems have time for. They want power and elections now.

So it’s easier to pander to “free” “accessible” etc.

Have you ever driven through the projects? The cars they buy themsleves are always impeccably taken care of and washed, etc....

It's a human thing to take pride in the things you own and shite all over things you don't.

Just give everyone who lives in the projects their own house and charge them property taxes.

re: Blacks and home ownership....putting cart before the horse
Black American Culture and Wealth Inequality

Somebody posted this last week and is the best summarized analysis of the entire issue. They even quantify that 36% of the wealth disparity between blacks and whites are due to redlining and wealth inheritance.

"It’s not looking good for the progressive narrative about the racial wealth gap. Still, there is a kernel of truth to it. Researchers at Brandeis followed a nationally representative set of 1,700 families from 1984 to 2009 and measured their wealth gains over that period. They concluded that inherited wealth and length of homeownership accounted for 5 percent and 27 percent, respectively, of the racial disparity in wealth gains. But even if that combined 32 percent could be automatically ascribed to historical racism (which it cannot), that would still leave 68 percent of the gap to be explained by other factors. In short, many commentators have zoomed in on the fraction of the story that can be told without discomfort but have ignored the rest."

Helicopter money has not and will not ever work to increase wealth in the black community. We have $21T in transfer payments since the begginning of the great society, and the situation has gotten much worse. More importantly, the black family was seeing exponential GROWTH in wealth, income and homeownership prior to the sixties. They can thank LBJ for the situation they are in, and the only way out is not with more handouts, but a cultural change. End of story.

No it isn’t

Anything geared toward a race of people is racist

An actual government program for one race - institutionalized racism

re: Blacks and home ownership....putting cart before the horse
The cart before all of the other carts and horses is rebuilding the importance of the family unit and education. Inner city public schools are day care centers, not schools. Also nobody has a dad. It’s shocking that nobody in power wants to talk about it because we are scared to hurt feelings.

This is not an exclusively “black” problem either. This is becoming a trend across society and it will kill our country. As long as we champion people like cardi b and her degenerate friends we can’t be shocked that young people start mimicking what they hear and see. Also not having dads in the picture is a tragedy.

I live and work in Atlanta and know a lot of black people.

Every family I know where the parents are married and the dad is working has a house already.

Trump's doing that so the Dems cannot take credit for it.

Plus it works against their agenda of continued dependency. So, you're missing 2 big points.

re: Blacks and home ownership....putting cart before the horse
true story

we had a section 8 family move in next door

government bought them the house so its 100% all theirs as long as they pay $1 every moth and the government pays the full remaining amount of mortgage payment. utilities were also fully paid by our tax payer money and they got welfare, food stamps, and some sort of government assistance where a large delivery of assorted meats was delivered to them from a government care worker

they got evicted after 6 months because they never paid a single dollar towards getting to own that free house

im so glad they gone but its just laughable that these are the exact types the dimms want to give houses to.

deeprig9, google "The Atlantic" article written by Peter Wallison on 12/13/2011. It will educate you on "Fannie Mae" and "Freddie Mac" affordable housing requirements by Barney Frank.
