Low income people eat like crap because the crap is cheapest

That's not true if you do the math. I have. A large bag of chips is mostly air. If you check the net weight and calculate the cost per ounce it is more expensive per ounce than a pound of ground beef.

Pasta, rice, potatoes are all healthier than chips and much cheaper per ounce.

Apples, bananas and beans are all cheap.

Every grocery store I've ever been in has a section dedicated to fruits and vegetables and meats. I've never understood this bull shite line of thinking. Poor people are eating shitty food because they want to, not because they don't have access to healthy food.

That is a completely different type of 300lbs and most though not all slim down considerably after they retire.

How would you call it out on a nationwide level?

Make it okay to say, "Maintaining a healthy BMI is one of the most important and controllable things you can do for your health."

Saying that now, in any official capacity, is "fat shaming" and part of the HUGE range of things that will get you cancelled by the left.

That's all he is saying and only someone on the left can say it with even a remote modicum of safety (even though Dem politicians fat shame Trump all the time, that's okay because "Orange Man Bad as a well as Fat.")

quote:

Would you ban most of the NFL’s O-Linemen?

Nobody is talking about banning fat people. Maher (and he's spot on for this point) is merely suggesting that it is okay to say it is better to be overweight than obese and it is better to be normal weight than overweight, all other things being equal.

Obviously bodybuilders and NFL linemen need bodyweight as part of what they do. However, it is a risk factor along with everything else to be considered.

The government could help by doing simple things like ceasing to spend federal funds on chocolate milk in kids’ school lunches.

The Obama USDA had implemented this, but Trump’s USDA reversed course in 2018.

It’s harder to expect adults to make good health decisions when they’ve been conditioned at an early age to expect heavy doses of sugar and fructose with every serving.

Yes

The morbidly obese are obvious to most

“Skinny fat” folks are in some ways more challenging (because they are not aware they have issues)

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/skinny-fat_b_1799797

Both suffer from the same shit:

Not enough metabolically active muscle (frailty)
Imparied glucose partitioning
Lack of reserve /resilience
Sub-optimized immune and hormonal function

These “healthy” folks getting Covid have likely not been assessed properly by the sick care system as they are not “sick”, yet...

They would need a DEXA scan to quantify their dysfunction (as some folks carry a normal weight BMI because of the factors above = excessive truncal fat with atrophied muscles)

Ponder the phrase: I did not know they could stack shite that high

Instead, the “party of science“ runs with: everyone is beautiful as they are

This isn't really close to being true for COVID. But it is for pretty much everything else.

That said, I agree with this. It is long past time we got a handle on obesity in this country. Do you know how much premiums would go down if we had somewhat normal obesity rates?

That’s because poor people can’t afford nutritious food. The science has been out on that for years.

I hope this is a troll. So poor families can afford six 2-liter sodas that will probably last a week as opposed to drinking tap water or cheap bottled water?

The Harvard scientists that created the food pyramid were paid off by the sugar industry to point the blame at “fat” calories and not “sugar”.

The reason they say that is because with obesity normally comes the other comorbidities that put them at a higher risk.

If we are gonna go back to shaming fatties, can we also double the frick down and shame people on welfare, too?

Completely agree and take it a step further and shame people with children they cannot properly provide for. It is irresponsible to have kids if you can't pay for them, just as it is irresponsible to have 20 dogs living in a small house. Hoarders.

It all started when "obesity" was required to be a medical diagnosis because it hurt the feelings of the fatties.

Obesity is not a fricking disease. It's a result of having a shitty lifestyle and being fricking lazy. But, but, my thyroid. frick off frickface, that's an actual disease.

Just like fibromyalgia, a made up disease to cushion the blow of "you're fricking old and shite hurts, stop being a pussy".

Poor people prefer 15 tacos from jack in the box over a bowl and oatmeal with a side of carrots and celery.

I know a person that makes six-figures who prefers 15 tacos from JIB vs. a bowl of oatmeal.
Obesity transcends income demographics.
We as a nation are too lazy, too busy, or just don't know how to plan a monthly meal plan, shop for the ingredients, and prepare home-cooked B, L, & D everyday.
That knowledge or drive went away when it began to take both parents working to make ends meet and schools taking home ec off the curricular.
