Biden's remarks, which were first reported by The New York Times on Thursday, came during a private gathering with prominent black mayors from Georgia. Three people with direct knowledge of the meeting confirmed the account to the newspaper, noting that Biden had said that black communities face a problem because "parents can't read or write themselves." Many of the attendees were reportedly "shocked" and "frustrated" by the former vice president's comment.

He’s being hyperbolic but parents not seeing the value of education and not requiring education of their children IS the problem

If they were being honest with themselves, they wouldn’t be shocked

If nothing else, Joe's crazy gaffes are entertaining.

The "moderate" three of the DNC primary have racism on lock

Between the three of them every single minority will be in prison or unemployed by June 2021

He might be right to an extent. The fact that the parents don't care or aren't present is the bigger issue, though.

Joe is painting with a broad brush, but he's right in a lot of cases.

The problem is parents, but it's not because they can't read and write.

Being the youngest of 4, I learned when my older siblings were letting me win. I think Joe is throwing this race on purpose. I know he is a gaffe machine, but nobody is this stupid.

Joe likes tap dancing in minefields. I'm still trying to give Joe the benefit of the doubt when it comes to calling him senile, or just a fricking moron. This guy was Vice-President of the United States. One heartbeat away. God help us.

Let's be honest. There are a lot more inner city Blacks and Rural Whites that can't read and write than we like to admit.

I personally knew a White guy who went to city schools. Dropped out in the 11th grade. He couldn't read or write a lick. He could sign his name...barely. 11 years of school...

Serious question...Is he wrong? If a parent doesn't place value on a basic education, do you really expect their offspring to do so?

How dare you question this investment in our children. We never spend enough in education.
