Correct. He then went around the cop and flipped him off in the process.

Nah. He was a little smarmy jackass at the beginning, then got treated to a dose of what his parents should have given him early in life. After he realized he fricked up, he seemed scared, apologetic, and generally well behaved. A quick learner I guess.
Just a mouthy punk who needed what he got. I thought it was handled well by the cop, and I always think it shows the sympathetic humanity of officers when even in a situation like that, they let the person go, having hopefully taught them some respect and humility without potentially ruining their life.

He should have been.
I know it's a very difficult job and he probably feels frustrated a lot, but his authority doesn't exist to facilitate unprofessional behavior like that. He didn't even uphold the law in this case, he just used his authority to scream and rant at a citizen.
I'm completely unsurprised that this board thought it was cool, though.

He was ARRESTED after it was determined the marijuana was not in the appropriate container. Period. Until then he was DETAINED while the vehicle was SEARCHED.
