For a while, it seemed like he thought everything Trump did was horrible, but he definitely seems to be giving Trump his due when it is deserved now. A lot of of his complaints about Trump have to do with optics rather than policy.

He has never said this. He says the US needs a wall and that it could be a wall like Israel's touch wall system. He said that it was stupid to suggest that Mexico will pay for it because 1: They won't, and 2: It is a legitimate function of a government so it would be appropriate for the US to pay for it. Also, if we suggest Mexico will foot the bill and they never do, it would make Trump look dumb. He says Trump should have said we will build a wall and leave it at that.
