Really want to know this so we don't see a bunch of trolling and crowing over moral victories.

Taking the house and several governor's mansions would be a success.

They’ll flip a dozen seats and the MSM will be calling it a complete and utter repudiation of Trump and his policies.

I started a thread asking this very question.

My guess is if they make gains but don’t take the house, they will act like it is a huge win, even though it will be exactly the opposite of what they thought and hoped would happen.

Go back a couple of months, and it was taking the House and Senate. They’ve already moved.

Here’s the only blue wave that they can expect to see tonight.

Probably anything around the median number seats gained by the non-presidential party in a mid-term (~30 seats in the house), but I reserve the right to claim less due to gerrymandering ( ). I believe the Dems need about a 6% total vote advantage to get a +1 seat majority.

That is plain vanilla happenstance in a first midterm of a new POTUS - gaining less than 30 seats is woeful underperformance.

With the $$$ they have pumped into this campaign they better get >50 to even have something to brag about.

A 'blue wave" would constitute picking up 60+ seats in the House and 4+ seats in the Senate.

Anything less is just the way things work

How is that a wave? Isn't that what is supposed to happen?

If they don't take the house but still pick up seats, it will be like an LSU 21-20 win over ULM.

I could be wrong, but the Senate was never really in play for Dems. Even the most aggressive projections kept it Red.

Guess that depends on if you think the normal midterm thermostatic flux counts as a wave, I suppose. It certainly doesn't always happen historically. Just two presidents ago GWB, '02), the Republicans avoided a loss in his first midterms. The R's picked up ~60 in 10 which I think is unquestionably a wave.

September 2018:
“Conservative news giant Matt Drudge on Friday made a somber prediction about Republicans’ chances in the November midterm elections, predicting President Donald Trump will see his party lose 60 seats in the House of Representatives.”

All they need is the House. Anything less should be considered an abject failure.

They get to have 2 years of hearings and impeachment with the House.
