I've heard the name, but even here in DFW when you think "Southern Baptist pastor" the first names which come to mind are Jack Graham and Robert Jeffries. Toss in Matt Chandler as well (but in his case because he's as clueless about running a church as Jon Daniels is about running the Rangers).

Paul in 1 Timothy 4 even talks about professing Christians being led astray by "teachings of demons", even from within the church.
He says as much to Ephesians in Acts 20:
"Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them." -Acts 20:28-30

He's worse running things.
He had a couple in the church who were missionaries, the man was looking at child porn, the leadership "sent him to rehab" while punishing her for divorcing him.
He also hid a pedo on staff, then when the church finally fired him it was due to "alcohol issues". Then announced that there was a former pedo on staff.
