Oh come on. If I'm hiring a guy, and i got through multiple rounds of interviews and decided to extend an offer, and then I find out that he was a convicted felon, I'd be pissed.
Seems you were very dependent on a criminal's honesty in checking the box. I am against the law but I am happy that more companies would do background checks.

Federal Government Strengthens Hiring Guidelines: The Ban the Box campaign successfully advocated with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission/EEOC to clarify and strengthen its guidelines. In April 2012, the Commission clarified and strengthened its policies by updating the Enforcement Guidance on Consideration of Arrest or Conviction Records in Employment Decisions. Testimony and research submitted by organizations around the country contributed to this update and clarification of the Guidance.

EEOC Upholds the Ban: The EEOC has already begun prosecuting employers who have a blanket ban on hiring people with felony convictions, since this ban violates an EEOC requirement for “individualized assessment” of the circumstances of any past convictions. For example, in 2012, Pepsi Beverages was required to pay $3.13 million and provide job offers and training to African-American job applicants because the EEOC ruled that Pepsi’s use of background checks discriminated based on race.

Does anyone doubt JBE agrees with Obama's EEOC? They found that because Pepsi refused to hire those with past convictions it was racial discrimination. Can Pepsi help it that a disproportionate amount of crimes are committed by blacks? No.

I don't think I've ever gone to work for a company without them running a drug screen and background check. Maybe its not that common but I'd assume it would be very common for certain industries.

My point was that a felony doesn't automatically disqualify you from a job, but lying/omitting it would.

What an idiot. If I'm hiring someone for my business, I have the right to know if they potentially will steal my assets.

That is correct.

We don't criminal background checks for all positions but do for things like operators and truck drivers. We do ask all if they have been convicted and if they lie there is no way they get hired.

There is nothing in the law requiring the employer to do background checks.

Does your company have a "box"? If so, do you interview candidates that have checked the box?

We do and have hired people who have been in a jail a time.

Never have hired one that lied about it.

If they are going to ban a box, remove race from all government documents. BOOM, no more affirmative action.

But then hiring practices would be based on ability. That is unAmerican in today's world. fricked up times to say the least.
