quote:

WASHINGTON -- The Biden administration is extending a federal moratorium on evictions of tenants who have fallen behind on rent during the coronavirus pandemic.

quote:

John Pollock, coordinator of the National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel, said current surveys show that 18.4% of all tenants owe back rent. That number also revealed significant racial disparity: The percentage of Black tenants behind on their rent was 32.9%.

What happens when the pandemic ends? 33% of black tenants haven’t paid a dime since March 2020. This is a huge reason why fedgov is milking covid for everything it is worth. Either money printer goes brrrr like never before seen or racist America makes 1/3 of black tenants homeless. Either way poor gonna get poorer fast.

So glad I sold my rent house in 2019. Landlords aren’t all rich people who can pay the mortgage for multiple families

I’m trying to figure out what laws the Democrats are actually for. Seems like they have become the party of “Sure, do whatever you want.”

How can these owners not sue the government for recompense?

It doesn’t end until the Ministry of Truth says it ends, so, it doesn’t end.

Only for some people they seem a protected class. Everyone else is required to pick up the slack.

There are suits working their way through the courts. Of course, I’m sure the federal government will claim some sort of immunity or sovereign immunity. But, common sense would tell you that this is nothing more than an illegal taking.

I'm guessing this is why they keep extending it. Probably something along the lines of if it never ends you never gain standing....

I would have been better served years ago hoping for a meteor to flatten my other property than renting it out.

Every metric will show racial disparity...There are obvious differences in the "cultures" of the races.

I'm tired of the racial bs...own up to the problems so they can be addressed.

Reckon what the SCOTUS would have to say about it? Oh, never mind, ACB is out signing books, can’t hear such a case right now.

Just a guess, but the government will probably claim that it wasn't a "taking" but merely a moratorium. Further, the government always thought that the renters would pay all the back rent once the moratorium was lifted.

When all the renters move out the day before the moratorium ends -- or even stays the absurd amount of time some cities/states give them to go through the eviction process -- they're moving out. Many will trash the place.

The federal government will then claim that until these landlords go through the civil courts to get a judgment to collect back rents, AND, until they can prove that they've done everything to collect on their judgments (including having to go through absurd garnishment proceedings), the Federal government doesn't have to pay these landlords anything because the landlords "haven't exhausted their legal remedies."

Of course, the hope is that this will all be 10 years down the road and most landlords will have just given up or died and the Dims will have emboldened a whole new generation of leeches to be at their mercy.

ETA: And, even IF the feds lose in court, they've still stolen BILLIONS of dollars to make their "constituency" more loyal to them. Basically, the same as a corrupt "stimulus" bill.

They are basically slow rolling the theft of landlords property. They are beating them into submission and will for force their hand to sell the property for well under market value or foreclose .The renters will eventually become the owners through some slight of hand and the mortgage lenders will be made whole by the government printing machines.

I agree with all this except 10 years down the road we will have Venezuelan type inflation and/or homelessness on a scale not seen since the founding fathers got off the boats.

I remember visiting a friend of mine in Bezerkeley in the 90's. All over the sidewalks near the campus, leftist had painted (using stencils), "Rent is Theft" and "Housing for People, Not Profits." My friend's comment was -- "YEAH, except for the buildings owned by their trust funds."

If that was true, I’d vote for them. But I assure you, they are far away from that stance. They LOVE telling people what to do.
