So, here's what will likely happen: employees who already planned to retire on or before 9/30 will take the offer to stay at home (subject to any prior directive, such as having to come in one day a week), then when they get close to their planned leave date, change from resigning to retiring (in order to keep health and life insurance benefits into retirement), and report into the office on the last day to turn in equipment, credit card, badge, etc.

Pretty much this.

I do wonder why the haven't enacted VERA or anything of the sort yet that's outlined in regulation.

Although I do love the chaos all this is causing

That's a win. It gets them out the way of day to day business.

According to Reddit, Elon is sending it directly to employees, bypassing HR and the employee's supervisor.

Reddit is not correct, that is an official OPM email account.

He’s talking about each employee’s Agency HR department, which OPM/Elon is bypassing.

I think the chaos is a feature.

About everyone in Fedgov is on pins and needles between this and the RTO.

You know what? They deserve it. I've been around government a long time and most of those people are worthless outside the STEM careers. This comes from someone not in STEM.

Those (usually) require OPM approval and (likely) Congressional funding.

Frick that 2 year severance crapola, 6 months severance would be extremely generous. The vast majority of private sector workers are employees at risk and they are walked out the door with their personal belongings and their last paycheck.

the two year makes sense if it is non-voluntary and you could codify those reductions into law. The cost savings would be tremendous. As it stands right now, I am not too hopeful of any of this making a lasting impact. If team Trump is strictly relying on EOs and ultimately the court, the second a lib gets in there, they will hire millions of federal workers and then brag about how many jobs they've added to the economy.

That's true which is why I would never in my life accept this proposal with the current government being operated on a CR.

Like if some Federal employees accept this, then their judgement should be called into question.

The only ones that this makes sense for is if the employee was planning on retiring within the resignation date listed in the guidance

"Unacceptable " is a gross understatement! frick that! They shouldn't receive a buyout! That's horse shite. They've already received enough free money. Fire those lazy bums.
They aren't being paid by a company that generates profit, produces or generates a product, they are paid by my tax dollars!
frick that!
