Assad is shite. A puppet of Russia/ Iran and Hezbollah. A mass murderer. A terrorist. That he’s marginally more appealing than Isis or any other group besieging Syria is not an endorsement and certainly not “ we must do everything we can to support him”. Just no.

Let them fight.

yup. i said this way back when he was fighting ISIS. both sides bad.

you think Israelis are more hostile to Christians than Hezbollah and Iran?

Zionism and the creation of the Jewish state has led to the regional instability and turmoil since the early 1900s that has served as the catalyst for the huge diaspora of middle eastern Christians to the West.

100 years ago Lebanon was majority Christian. "Palestine" (the region not the political entity) was around 30% Christian. Syria, Jordan, Iraq all had large and influential Christian populations.

The Christians across the Middle East, aside from being the descendants of the earliest Christians we read about in Acts etc, were a moderating influence in their respective societies, comprising much of the middle and upper class. We would likely have not seen the emergence of the Muslim Brotherhood, B'aathism, Arab Nationalism, and the other reactive and negative side effects from the Jewish state had the Christians not have been compelled to leave en masse in the 20th century.

The region would be better off, more pro western/Christian and peaceful if Israel was not given a mandate to forcibly take land from the indigenous arab population.

Had it been a more equitable migration and integration into "British Palestine", we would have avoided much of the turmoil of the 20th/21st century.

Many have evolved into nut jobs in recent years. They can rationalize anything. Hell, there are some who like Putin.

First, like the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s, good guys are hard to find, and it’s a shame that they both cannot lose.

The Assad regime:
Assad's army, the Syrian Arab Armed Forces, has carried out several attacks with chemical weapons, and pro-Assad forces have caused more than 90% of hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths (mostly Sunni)
Assad is supported by Russia and Iran. Russia support is because of past socialist links and support for a Russia naval base and air field on the Mediterranean coast. Iran supports him because he is warring against the Sunni majority.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, (HTS):
HTS “the rebels” are a terrorist organization. They are the main anti Assad group. They are also anti Shia, anti Kurd, anti Christian, and anti democratic. They are supported by Turkey. These are the rebels who have taken Aleppo and are driving south to cut Damascus off from the Russian supply bases on the Mediterranean coast.

The Kurds:
Ba'athist Syria had long banned Kurdish language in schools and public institutions; and discrimination against Kurds steadily increased during the rule of Bashar al-Assad. State policy officially suppressed Kurdish culture; with more than 300,000 Syrian Kurds being rendered stateless. Kurdish grievances against state persecution eventually culminated in the 2004 Qamishli Uprisings, which were crushed down violently after sending Syrian military forces.
Think of Poland almost perpetually divided by Germany, Russia, and Austria. The Kurds are divided by Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. Nobody in this fight wants a Kurdish victory. And they aren’t strong enough to win.

The Christians:
Christians in Syria made up about 10% of the pre-war Syrian population but now makes up less than 2%, falling from 1.5 million in 2011 to just 300,000 in 2022 due to widespread persecution by Islamic terrorists and the impact of the Syrian Civil War. They have been attacked by Assad forces because they backed anti Assad political organizations before the civil war. They are also attacked by HTS because they are Christians.

Syrian Democratic Forces:
Located in North and East. Supported by US. Friendly to Kurds and Christians. Opposed to Assad and HTS. It has been generally defensive under Biden with less than a thousand American boots on the ground backed by powerful American air power.

and the CIA created ISIS... so what... Perhaps if our foreign policy had not been so Anti-Syrian, he could have become a regional proxy like Jordan.

I don't think he loves Hezbollah, but rather they were a convenient resource to tap into to help counter the insurgency in his country.

As if I didn't need any further reason to support Assad- he must be protected at all costs.

Syria is such a quagmire of global politics I have no idea whom to pull for. If Assad falls, what is the most likely regime to replace him and will it be strong enough to finally quell the chaos there?

Doesn't matter who wins the result will not be good for the USA. If Assad regains control of Syria it will be like it was from 2017 until Thursday. There will still be pockets of rebel control which will become extremist breeding grounds. If Assad falls then a larger civil war breaks out and Syria becomes like Libya. Which will provide extremists even larger breeding grounds. IMO the best scenario is Putin sending Assad on a magic carpet ride without the magic carpet from the penthouse of the 4 Seasons in Moscow and allowing a leader from the Syrian Army to take control and implement the plan to federalize Syria Boris Johnson and Putin both supported back in 2017.

ETA: Correction it was Boris Johnson who spoke out in favor of Putin's plan to federalize Syria not Trump. My bad. I knew it was one of the western leaders with bad hair though.

Trinitarian-Like Belief: Alawite theology includes a triadic concept of divinity (referred to as the "Essence, Name, and Gate"), which some interpret as loosely paralleling the Christian Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

That seems to parallel the concept of Modalism, which argues that Father, Son, and Spirit are various Modes of God, not individual Persons. Modalism is considered a heresy by most branches of Christianity.

Has this actually been proven by credible sources (not USA or MSM)? The last "chemical" weapon by Assad was proven out to be a false flag and it wasn't Assad at all.

Is everyone's stance as anti-assad based on anything other than US govt and MSM propaganda?

I don’t like the fact he’s a Muslim, but he is a pretty secular ruler. He doesn’t execute infidels like the rebels do. He’s the best option for Syria right now

Yeah, because Israel is behind the mass immigration, wars, and social chaos in Christian countries.
