Around what year did Rush Limbaugh stop taking as many calls during his show?

Back in the day Rush took a bunch of calls but his show transitioned into much more of a Rush stream of consciousness with barely any calls. Both styles have benefits but back in the 90s the show had a little more spice and edge to it with the callers and bits and we got crazy stuff like Dan’s Bake Sale. I guess Rush got older and toned things down a bit and felt like his brand was established and he didn’t need to be so caller heavy anymore. Which is good too because I can listen to Rush’s thoughts all day.
90s Rush was really peak Rush driven by his disdain for the Clintons. The show seemed to be getting a little stagnant later in the 2000s but the Clinton resurgence and 2016 election really lit a fire under Rush and you could tell he had that spark again. The 2016 shows were like the good old days.

The good old days were when he was just starting out in New York City. Remember the Fax line, where women callers had to send in a picture of themselves to prove they were real.

I actually think he peaked during the 00's.

The show used to also have more aspects of pop culture which tailed off into the 2000s.

Rush has always been great.
But he’s best when he’s on defense.
Especially when he’s on defense about the Clintons.
I hate listening to people talk to callers. Especially Hannity. But Rush’s callers usually make good points. I think the credit there goes to Mr. Snerdley.

Both Rush's Show and the Cultural/Political landscape have gotten far more well-defined, divided, and seriously contemptuous since the Obama years. Things changed...and Rush's job as being more informer, as opposed to entertainer, changed with those times.

He has so much to talk about and he is a pro at doing it. While his callers are sincere they are amateurs so they can wander about awhile before getting to the point.

I'm guessing his well-documented hearing loss probably contributed to reduced phone conversations.

His callers have to be transcribed because of his hearing.
That’s motivation to take less calls.
Also, as we see with text messages, tone and actual intent can suffer via text.
Actually, Rush didn’t even understand the announcement by Trump of his award. If you watch, you can see him being confused. He stands and covers his mouth and asks his wife ”Medal of Freedom?” She nods yes.
He couldn’t hear it.

Yeah the whole show now is basically the first 20 minutes of every hour.

when he lost his hearing and they had to change the show
most people dont realize rush reads off the computer monitor like screen to get the questions, so its hard to have a conversation, it has to be a question then a reply
this is when it stopped being a call in and talk thing

Today he joked that he’d get to the calls at 2:45.

I always enjoyed his updates. The environmental wacko updates and his animal rights updates with the machine guns firing in the baclground.
My favorite thing he did was Gulf War One - The Movie. That was a work of art and hilarious.

I was lucky enough to talk to him on air in 2008. It was a thrill.
