Not sure if this has been discussed on here or not, but I am starting to see some chatter through the various southern history groups (SCV, MOSB, etc.).

The House appropriations bill that funds the State Department, VA, USDA, and Dept of Interior (HR-7608) contains this little doozy of a requirement:
quote:

Sec. 442. Notwithstanding any other provision of law or policy to the contrary, within 180 days of enactment of this Act, the National Park Service shall remove from display all physical Confederate commemorative works, such as statues, monuments, sculptures, memorials, and plaques, as defined by NPS, Management Policies 2006, §9.6.1.

By my reading (and that of others), this would mean if the bill is passed as is and signed, the various Confederate/Confederate state memorials at Gettysburg, Shiloh, Vicksburg, Antietam, Fredricksburg, etc. battlefields would have to come down.

Normally I would say there will be a special exemption, but I doubt it now.

Remember when all they wanted was to remove the statues to museums, well that's exactly what Fredericksburg and Gettysburg are.. never ever give an inch.

So, the generation that fought the South (and the voting, Reconstruction former slaves) reconciled with their former enemies, but their 6th generation descendants are intent upon undoing that reconciliation.

Makes sense.

So even take off plaques that tell about history?

Lol. They said they’d stop at statues.

Vicksburg is gonna be silly with only the Yankee perspective.

Good job progs. Tigerdoc’s people suck

These are historical markers and open air museums. It’s a horrible idea.

Good. Losers don’t get memorials. Take down all the participation trophies.

So if another civil war broke out for whatever reason and it was again the north against the south, would you abandon your family, friends and home to fight against them with the north? Don't be a dumbass, the vast majority of the people that fought and died in that war were defending their homes, they had no stakes in the political side of it. The soldiers that fight and die in wars rarely do.

The point of the battlefields and monuments is to explain what happened.

It’d be like telling your grandson about LSU’s perfect season and being forbidden from mentioning any opposing team, player, or coach.

Sadly, there is not one Southern Senator with the balls to oppose this. Miss Lindsey will welcome it. I don't want the Dems to take over the Senate, but I won't be too sad if Miss Lindsey and Miss McConnell lose in exchange.

I’ll never understand the soyboy fascination with those losers. I’d hope Trump would get Republicans to the point of moving on from that type of moral victory. Hopefully it happens in the next four years. I know, I know... those soldiers tried super hard and gave their best. Gold stars all around

I’ll see myself out. You guys keep enjoying you gluten free, non-dairy, organic tea party.
