Anyone thinking about voting for new taxes tomorrow, please watch this

This video has probably been posted here before, but it REALLY opened my eyes to the sheer amount of corruption, incompetence, and irresponsibility of our state government.
This video points out how wealthy we SHOULD be as a state, given all of our industry and resources, and how much we’re actually receiving back for investing in our community.
We should be a friggin mini-Dubai!!
What can we do to fix this? ITEP has got to go.
15 minute YouTube video, worth the watch: The Louisiana Paradox

You and I got much different information from that video. Surely you aren't suggesting that taking corporations and giving the gov't more money is somehow going to make your life better?

We’re talking about tax revenue here. I’m arguing that we don’t need to give the government more money when they have horrible systems in place like ITEP. They’re leaving billions on the table.

Right. So, you are saying to make your life better, the gov't needs to tax more taxes from corporations.
Here's a list of tax revenues by state: LINK. LA is 24th. After watching your video, I expected to see them at the bottom of the list for tax revenue. Not the case.
Here's a list of spending as it relates to the state's GDP: LINK. LA is towards the bottom of this list. Hmmmm.... Maybe they are spending a little too much?
Here's a list of spending per student: LINK. LA ranks 30th in spending per student.
So..... You are taxing just as much as your peers. You are spending just as much as your peers. You are spending just as much as your peers on education. Hmmmmm...... I wonder what else could be the issue here because tax revenue and gov't spending don't seem to be it?

Demographics, it really is that simple

You are the second dumbest mother fricker here. The first is the one i had to explain this to last week.
No exemptions, no industrial expansion, no future property tax.
Nobody is investing in this shitstained state without incentives.
But let’s gloss over the other taxes these industrial corporations are paying during the 8 years they are property tax exempt. We can also gloss over the high paying wages they are paying Louisiana citizens, whom, spoiler alert, pay taxes as well.
Bite the hand that feeds you, I dare you.

ITEP has got to go.
If we attract projects with ITEP, Louisiana gets more tax revenue through income taxes and sales taxes. Plus, the property tax exemption is only temporary if it's managed properly.
If we fail to bring in new industry, we will stagnate economically. That's what we can't afford.

Not to mention the support industry for these plants.

Just a FYI for everyone, Calcasieu Parish is facing an ITEP project I think should be opposed.
There's a solar panel project seeking an ITEP. But, it creates only one job -- a contractor position for maintenance that may or may not be a local hire. Therefore, it doesn't really generate any new sales or income taxes. But, the cap-ex is fooling people into thinking it's a good thing.
That's not what ITEP should be incentivizing. That's what you call a giveaway, or corporate welfare.
This issue comes before the School Board for approval at Tuesday night's meeting.

The problem is our government officials are corrupt and have no idea how to use money and taxes that we give them. They are clueless when it comes to money. It’s time that we put politicians in charge, who aren’t corrupt, know how to spend money, and know how to improve the economy.
Taxing industries won’t help one bit. It will end up hurting us. There are several new plants being built, or about to be built in Ascension and St. James. Million and billion dollar expansion projects and projects for new plants will do great things for our area. Tons of contractor jobs and tons of permenant jobs in this area which means more money and more people moving here.
Those industries would not invest in this shithole of a state if it weren’t for tax exemptions. No one wants to invest their businesses here because this state is a complete shithole. If we took away those tax exemptions, they would invest in Texas and this state would fold and become a third world country.
Problem is we need cuts on welfare (welfare eligibility should only be for people who are disabled, veterans with mental problems, and old people who worked their entire lives), Obamacare, and I think the requirements for TOPS should be a little more strict than what they currently are (too many average students who don’t really care about school are wasting tax dollars).
Industries also donate a frick ton of money to the communities they reside in and to the schools in their area. They’ll also donate money and sponsor technical schools because it helps them to hire people who are qualified. People are hating on industries for no reason what so ever except for the fact that they make and have a lot of money. It’s getting pretty scary because a lot of people in this country hate people, industries, and businesses who make a lot of money.
Bottom line is, we don’t need to tax industries anymore, and we have to keep the tax exemptions in place because without them, these industries wouldn’t be here

That is a great piece of propaganda. Congrats for falling for it.
Not going to rehash everything I posted about this before but it basically boils down to the tax incentives are like bandaids on the fester wound that is the anti-business climate in LA. Focusing on the bandaid without looking at the underlying reason why we need them is deceptive.
Think about it. Do you really think LA's problems stem from not taxing business enough?

So here are two opportunities
With itep
1. Company directly employs 50 local people and 250 people indirectly that start immediately paying taxes
2. In 5 years you start collecting property taxes at a small rate and in 8 years you are collecting all of them. Thus stimulating the local economy even more.
Without itep you have a 15% chance of the company coming to Louisiana.
If you privately got JBE in a room with no cameras I bet he would tell you that itep and the changes he made to it, are the biggest mistakes of his governorship and probably the number one reason why he won’t be re-elected.

God i hate communists.
yes, Louisiana should be doing ALOT better - unfortunately the Socialists and the Democratic Party have been in charge over the last 100 years and now were broke.

So what is the opportunity costs of not signing it?
I mean a place like that is not going to have significant impact on the environment, local resources, etc...
Option 1.
In 5 years you start collecting significant property taxes locally with minimum cost and effects. Say the property with the immovable equipment is valued at 5 million. That’s a lot of property taxes.
Option 2.
You collect taxes on bare land valued at ~7k an acre.
I hope you not in finance, because to me it’s an easy option....
