By tracing the gun used and other evidence left behind ? And they’re just trying to locate him? Not letting him know they’re aware?

Looks like he had a cell phone in his pocket. Unless it's a burner, they will be able to trace it based on his movement

I swear this was my exact thought as I watched the new press conference with nothing more than the video of him climbing down off the roof.
If they play it out like they have no idea who he is, when they know exactly who this guy is, it may not spook him into offing himself or taking any extra measures to hide. Very plausible.

Whatever the correct procedure is to apprehend the shooter and gather all possible evidence I have little faith in the FBI to do a competent job.

Exactly my thought watching the press conference…
They know who he is, they’re one step on this dude…. FBI is putting 100% behind this by order of the POTUS.
