Any Trump voters/politicalboard posters differ with Trump on this one?
The brand new executive branch loopty loop on the legislative branch?

No real reason, just thought that it would be interesting.

I'm no constitutional lawyer, but today would seem like a historical day from a power consolidation and executive responsibility perspective. FDR probably did some comparable and some worse shit, but that was a long time ago.

Repbulicans on here hate being stereotyped and that's understandable, but siding with the president on this one just reinforces negative stereotypes and Trump supporters have lost their strict constitutionalist and original American conservative roots.

In another sense it's like pledging allegiance to a leader and not to the political traditions of the nation.

Some people wonder why Trump is called fascist -- override the wishes of the state-elected Congress members and invent a new move to go hate on some immigrants.

NOTE: I am in total support of the Wall because of the sheer number of hard drugs being imported through the border, but you gotta do that shite in a more traditional pattern.

I believe that's a long euphemism for "cult of personality."

Actually, it's nothing like that at all.
It's more like pledging allegiance to your country that is under attack.

Not that complicated.

The Democrats are only opposing the wall because it is a Trump campaign promise; they were all in favor of wall construction before Trump. So, I say let Trump find another way; and I don't really care how it's done.

re: Any Trump voters/politicalboard posters differ with Trump on this one?
The President used his authority that was granted to him by Congress thru the National Emergency Act. Thru that Act the current iteration of which was passed in the 70s (although amended slightly in the Bush Years), Congress said (I’m paraphrasing), if the POTUS determines an Emergency exists he can build things and legislate by Executive Order.

So, once the POTUS (any POTUS) can present facts/evidence supporting his conclusion an emergency exists, he can do whatever he wants and it’s perfectly constitutional.

Viewing the Democrats opposition to Trumps EO to build the wall, they disagree with his conclusion only- but there are plenty of facts that Trump has gathered and rely upon which could reasonably lead to a conclusion that there is an emergency. Trump building the wall doesn’t violate the Separation of Powers or the NEA.

I think the NEA is stupid. Congress voluntarily gave up its legislative powers in this instance and there’s nothing they can do about it now. I also think the entire Federal Beuaracracy (all of which were created under similar theories as the NEA), is stupid. But not every moronic law passed by Congress is unconstitutional.

I think the NEA needs to be repealed or limited by time and subject matter. But that’s not the basis upon which these turncoat Republicans voted to reject his EO, or what the vote was about today. They voted against it either because they really don’t understand and they think they are being “purists” to the separation of powers doctrine (example Paul) or because like Pelosi, they really hate Trump (ex. mittens)

You do realize he's acting under the provisions of a law passed by Congress in the 1970s, right?

Same as Rand. I get that it’s within his right. I want the wall.

I thought it was a stupid point when he was running but the left’s arguments against it and seeing the massive amounts of migrants run roughshod over no wall have actually emboldened me.

That being said, I don’t like executive orders, even when they’re getting me what I want. It’s ok to say “I want this, but not like that.”

That being said, civil discourse can still be had.

I completely agree with your sentiment. Most of the posters here are NOT 'conservatives' just like how many Democrats are labeled 'liberal' but they are really progressives.

And "progressives" are actually communists at heart.
Have you ever heard a "progressive" say any thing negative about socialism or communism?
Why do you suppose that is?
