I feel our 'public' education system has purposefully failed to educate generations on this history. And not just here in America, but across the globe.

I don't buy this counter-Darwinian narrative. I think what is more likely is that there have been multiple periods of civilization-building which were wiped out by natural disasters, one of which occurred prior to the ending of the last ice age. I think this first age of real urban human civilization was largely erased by rising seas.

Today, 80% of humans live within 200 miles of the coast. At the end of the last ice age, pretty much everything within 200 miles of the coasts were inundated along with millions of square miles of fertile river valleys which became seas (Mediterranean Sea, Caribbean Sea, Persian Gulf, Gulf of Mexico, South China Sea, Sea of Japan, etc). If 80% of humans died, including all of those living near the coasts, would civilization survive or devolve?

The next one is the Bronze Age Collapse. Then there's the end of the Roman Empire with the Plague of Justinian and Plague of Alexandria, and later the Black Death and the Colonization of the New World.
