His "terroristic act"? Sharing the Christian gospel.
So why are we allies with Erdogan's bunch, anyway?
LINK
(Yes the source can be considered "biased" since it is the press agency of the Southern Baptists, if you are a flaming liberal)

let's drive these swarthy, stinky barbarian hordes out of this once-great land and lift her up to Christ once more.

I can guarantee you that for every Christian you see/hear evangelizing, there are thousands more who don't say a thing.

Christian missionaries today don’t chop your head off or stone you for refusing to follow the Gospels.

I expected nothing less from a government that tried to get Enes Kanter deported back to their country because he is a supporter of an opposition leader.
Erdogan is everything that Kemal Ataturk tried to keep Turkey from becoming.

This paragraph here tells the story. Erdogan has had a hardon for this guy Gulen for years now.
quote:
David Curry, president of the religious liberty watchdog group Open Doors USA, said Brunson "essentially" is a "hostage" held by Turkey as part of its attempt to pressure the U.S. to extradite Muslim cleric Fethulla Gulen, who Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan believes is responsible for a failed coup attempt in 2016.

Why are we allies with Erdogans bunch? Because a lot of status quo leftist thinkers in the State Department are blocking what we should really be doing....establishing and independent Kurdistan and pulling our soldiers back to its borders. Cut Turkey in half to teach the idiot a lesson.

Because over half a century ago us and British shite our collective pants at the thought of the Russians controlling the Dardanelles.
This lack of foresight will test NATO's resolve sooner rather that later. Turkey isn't really on friendly terms with any of its neighbors, nor the Russians. The way they are headed they are going to get themselves into a war soon. Hopefully NATO wisens up and parts ways before they drag us all into something with Moscow.

Why is this "what we should be doing"?
If anything, how has the past 150 years of Middle Eastern history not taught you that meddling in their affairs and establishing governments based on how we see fit is not the way to go? These people and that region have deep internal divisions that have nothing to do with modern complications or events. We have no business interfering in that, anymore than we already have.

Because both political parties in this country have established a political orthodoxy so entrenched that it cannot be challenged: American involvement in the foreign affairs of other countries is a net positive for America and the world.
Our desire to make the world safe for democracy, at the butt of a gun mind you, is as messianic as radical Islam's desire to impose Sharia worldwide. Look at the news today, Democrats and the media want war with Russia, Republicans want war with Iran and everybody it seems wants war with North Korea. It's absolute insanity.

It still makes us shite our pants. The reason for the Turkish alliance is for its geopolitical position. Turkey knows this, and with the neo-Ottoman aims of Erdogan, it will use the threat of Russia getting closer to Turkey to get what it wants. Just today the Turkish FM said that the YPG must leave all the Syrian territory it controls, and that the US and Turkey have an "understanding" about the Turkish situation. The Kurds thought international pressure would be on their side, but governments favor the status quo, as no one is interested in a large war that would surely follow, especially one right on Europe's doorstep.
