Overall it sounds like you were told things to inspire you to work hard and make yourself a success. Even though the words are different, many folks use the same line of thinking (creating the underdog) to push others towards goals.
I hate the quoted part- as in I hate that anyone feels that way if they actually do. And I truly don't think it's true.

Well they are for sure wrong. Do Black people seriously think White people are part of some big secret club where we give each other jobs and benefits?
Most white people aren't wealthy and didn't grow up wealthy. They get jobs like anybody else. Yeah, there are people out there whose parents are rich who grow up privileged and they didn't have to work for much. But it has nothing to do with being white and there are rich people in every society on Earth where that is the case.

quote:That sounds pretty racist. Then again, the definition of that word has changed too many times.
I grew up in an environment where I was told that you always will have to work harder in life versus whites in order to succeed. I was told that whites are always looking for reasons to incarcerate black people no matter how miniscule the crime. Meanwhile, whites almost always get a lighter sentence or none at all.

Whites do work hard, but alot of them come from wealth.

And they get jobs and other benefits due to associates they know.
Is this really how blacks view whites? Who creates these views?

Geez. That is a defeatist view if I've ever seen one.
quote:Yes.
However, I wonder if this means my environment is racist to whites.

You were told a lot of stupid shite.
And, a lot of it was probably told to you by black racists although a lot of it was probably just told to you by dumb people.
I don't believe in "racist environments" because it's a cop out. If you turned out racist once you were an adult, then that's because YOU are racist.

Exactly.
To hear a lot of blacks talk, you'd think that whites falling into wealth because of rich relatives was an every day experience for almost all of us.
LOL. No

I don't think your community is racist but it's certainly not colorblind

I've been talking about this for at least 3 decades.
Why do they do this to their children? I mean frick, even if you thought it was all true, why do it?
I remember giving a talk to a group of 3rd graders about 25 years ago. Maybe 20. I went home absolutely flustered. Almost without fail, the black kids seemed to have already "given up" on the idea that they could be successful. These were 8 year olds.
fricking adults need to recognize that 8 year olds don't process worldly information the way an adult might. If you tell a kid often enough that no matter what he does, he's fricked because of his skin color, he's gonna start to believe it and it'll become self fulfilling.
And that's just shitty parenting regardless of race.

So they don't face the same societal or economic struggles as blacks. As a result, they can put in less effort in maintaining success.
I grew up poor and on food stamps in North Baton Rouge... I had no "associates" to help me out
You have no excuses... and using the color of your skin as an excuse is being racist to yourself

It's true. I've had blacks tell me that white couples get the advantage of 'start up money' when they get married. I asked how much. They said 'About $20,000.'
I was very disappointed when I realized I never got my start up money.

Move to a mostly white suburb and you will be the bell of the ball. Lots of whities looking for that I am not a racist friend. Hell want to be e-friends? You sound like a cool guy.

To add to this, I still vividly recall a fantastic little boy in that class. I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up and he said Basketball Player. No biggie. Lot of white kids hope to be pros too. But, I followed up and asked if there was anything he was good at other than sports. His teacher piped up to tell me he was one of the best kids in her class in math. And, all the other kids nodded in agreement.
I can't remember exactly what I said but I commented to him that who knows, he might just grow up to be an engineer who builds things. And he actually told me that he could never be able to do that. And some other 8 year old, repeat, some other 8 year old in this about 50/50 white black class said, "that's a white people job". To which most of that 50% nodded in agreement.
It was supremely deflating to say the least. Mainly because I knew that an 8 year old doesn't create that view within himself. It is INFLICTED upon him.

Yeah, there is plenty of true stuff in the OP. There is a also a lot that goes unsaid.
People like this will ensure that the black community, as a whole, never rises itself out of poverty, crime, and government dependency.

Wait, you didn't get a six figure job straight out of college working for your dad's company.
