AIM-9X Sidewinder (Air Force) - $472,000
Posted by ItzMe1972

Half a million dollars to shoot a baloon down!
That's not including all the logistics that went along with it.

There aren’t a lot or maybe any aircraft in inventory that can brrrrt at 60,000 feet.
"What logistics are you referring to?"

KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft, as well as F-22 Raptors were observed loitering in the area, along with a U.S. Navy P-8a Poseidon patrol aircraft. A U.S. Coast Guard HC-130 search-and-rescue plane also flew off Wilmington.

I don’t think a balloon gives off enough of an IR signature…more than likely hit with an AMRAAM.

You rather they send the money to Ukraine?

Local witness said she counted 8 planes.
That she could see.
I'm betting a whole squadron was used when a pair (at most) would have been enough.
Do we know for sure what the balloon's altitude was at the moment of intercept?
And do you believe the 'official' story
